Does anyone have multiple Marriott Visa credit cards? I have the basic signature card ($45 annual fee) and rewards account in my name. I would like to upgrade to the black card with the 50,000 points sign-up bonus. I know that I can't get the bonus if I allready have a card in my name, however, can I have my husband apply for the card? Also, could he attach it to my Marriott rewards number/account or does he have to have a seperate rewards account?

My wife and I each have the black card. Has to be attached to MR account in card holders name. I think you can upgrade your card to the black card-no bonus but better benefits. Also, your hubby can get the card with bonus and transfer points to you when needed. No charge for that.

I had the basic Marriott Canadian Visa and I was able to change to the black card and was able to get all the sign up benefits. However, Canadians only get 30K points while US get 50K points. The basic card was then cancelled. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Good to know...did not know that you can transfer points between accounts with no charge...that will work even better! I will inquire about upgrading my card too!

For transferring, there is some paperwork to do. (They email the form and you have to email/fax back.) Also, transfer is only allowed when points are needed. In other words, you can't just transfer to top off your account. You have to need the points at that time.

The way we do it is call in for the reservation. I am short points. They send the paperwork and I return it. Takes a few steps but works well.

I have the original card, and we got the black on in my husband's name. Both ar linked to the same rewards account. We mostly use the black one since it offers more points than original at Marriott and I don't want to have to remember to take both.

Don't advertise that because the card is supposed to be attached to only the MR account of the primary cardholder.

Do you get 1X points for paying MF's with the Marriott card, or do you get 2X or 5X? We have about $4K we pay each years in fees, so really curious as to the value of the card for our needs.

You do get the 5x. That plus the category 1-5 certificate and 15 elite nights makes this a solid deal for the annual fee each year.

You get those 5X points on MF's, even if you bought resale?

Do realize that there are two cards. The Black card and the Silver. The black card gives 5x on Marriott purchases, the silver only 3x on Marriott purchases.

We "churn"

We are credit card "churners."

My wife had the Marriott card or a couple of years, then I applied and got mine and she closed her account. I will probably close mine before the annual fee hits.

We do this with airline cards as well. One year it's me, the next year it's her with the card to avoid the annual fees.

My "favorite" is the Venture card. But some of these bonus point offers recently have been too good to pass up. I'm about to close my American Airlines account in the next day or so as soon as my payment check is posted. My wife just got her American card last week (50,000 miles) :D

I have been reading Million Mile Secrets by Daraius. He has opened my eyes. I am late to the party, I think. ;)

When I think of what I could have been getting with my MF's to Starwood, for example. :wall:

Same here but I call them and they gave me the 50k points :)

I HAD 2 Canadian cards - Chase Canada did unilaterally and recently cancel one of my cards citing that you are only allowed to have one card. It will be interesting to see if I lose the elite night credits I received - they did refund the fee so it would not surprise me though this would suck.
