I found a 4 night rental at Marriott Newport Coast that I am considering and all of the other listings were 7 nights. Because Marriott is structure with 7 nigtht stays, I'm wondering how this rental is only 4 nights? I'm also wondering if the owner is planning on only staying 3 nights of that week and if that's the case, how does the room get cleaned? Lastly, would there be two separate check-in's for that 7 night duration? Any help on this would be appreciated!

Could be what you describe or DC points reservation. (DC points reservations can be more or less than 7 nights.) If they are splitting the room with you they can get a mid week cleaning and change over credit cards for incidentals.
But I don't know how any of us would know what the renter is doing.

Thanks, I'm reaching out to the owner, just wanted to have a basic understanding first.

Marriott Timeshares are no longer just a week at a time. With the introduction of the points program Marriott Timeshare stays can be as little as one day.

Once you ascertain that this is legitimate, and if the days you'll be using the villa will be AFTER the owner has checked in, make sure your rental agreement is for a FULL CLEAN, not just a mid-week Tidy because the bed sheets won't be changed and while the bathroom will be "tidied", it won't be fully cleaned and you probably don't want that. It's quite expensive -- I just rented out one night of my studio here in Maui Ocean Club (where I'm writing this) to somebody who just needed one night - before my daughter was going to check-in. It cost me $60 for the full clean...if it had been for the full 2-bedroom villa, the service would have cost me $170! (Marriott Newport Coast might have different pricing.) Ask the owner to call the Pre-Arrival folks at your resort to get your name (and your guests) so they know you'll be checking in on the agreed upon date. You'll need to also give them a charge card for incidentals. The owner should be able to work with you on this and communicate this so the front desk is expecting you.. The good news with these types of arrangements is that - assuming the owner is amenable - you can "check in" sooner (assuming the Full Clean can be done as early as possible) than the typical 4:00 pm since technically, the owner has already checked-in that first day. Hope this helps.

Many Marriott owners do own a "7 day week" which would mean you'd be splitting the week with someone else. So if you're splitting the week make sure you get a full clean before you check in.
BUT many Marriott owners now own "MVC Points" with points owners can reserve as few as 1 day. If this is the case, then Marriott will do a full clean and you'll have to check-in after 4pm

Hope this helps

If it's a 4 night split week it should be for the week not the weekend.
