When I logon to the Marriott Vacation Club website, I see this pop-up window notification:
As of November 21, 2011 Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. and its affiliates independently own and manage the Marriott Vacation Club program. The programs and products provided under the Marriott Vacation Club brand are owned, developed, and sold by Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. and its affiliates, not by Marriott International, Inc. or any of its affiliates. Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. and its affiliates are independent entities from and not affiliates of Marriott International, Inc. Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. and its affiliates use the Marriott marks under license from Marriott International, Inc. and its affiliate, and the right to use such marks shall cease if such license expires or is revoked or terminated. Marriott International, Inc. and its affiliates make no representations, warranties, or guaranties, express or implied, with respect to the information contained in any offering documents or with respect to the Marriott Vacation Club program.
This is the first I have heard of Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc. What is the difference between Marriott Ownership Resorts and Marriott Vacations Worldwide?

You will notice that all deeds from developer purchases read the Grantor (seller) as Marriott Ownership Resorts Inc. Probably a division of MVW now, these corporate structures never make any sense to me. Remember that MVW has other operations in the Ritz brand.

Marriott Ownership Resorts was the original corporate entity used by Marriott when they entered the timeshare business in the mid-1980's. It has always been the main Marriott timesharing corporate entity, but that name has not been used as the public face of the timeshare business since the they started using the name Marriott Vacation Club several years later. Substantively, it was MORI d/b/a MVCI. I am not sure that MVCI was ever an official corporate entity. All large corporations have a lot of these corporate entities set up for very technical purposes and they do not mean much, if anything, to the conduct of actual business operations.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the history associated with the name Marriott Ownership Resorts, Inc.

I understand that there are different entities within corporations for legal, operating, or marketing reasons (American Airlines versus AMR). In this situation, I guess I am surprised that the corporate entity associated with ticker symbol VAC is Marriott Vacations Worldwide and not Marriott Ownership Resorts.

It is my understanding that Marriot spun off its timeshare division and that is what the notice is pertaining to. The Marriot timeshares, I believe, are no longer part of the Parent Marriot brand. Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation appears to be the parent company for the timeshare business.
