While I don't like to look a gift horse in the mouth on great trades, it is ridiculous to put a two bedroom Marriott Mountainside unit up on the II internet side on 2/23 for usage the following day, 2/24. It is almost like secure anything at a city or location that has a Marriott and hope that Marriott dumps something at the last minute so that you can upgrade. Funtime

I think this is a great thing about DC. With the "no exchange fee" through II. I can secure a 1BR or 2BR, that will work, but upgrade in flexchange for something larger that works much better. With DC, you get both the exchange and reexchnage for no cost at the time of the exchanges.

We did this last year at Surfwatch. We exchanged in to a 2BR at Barony, the 2BR would work. With two couples and another single we opted to reexchange in to a 3BR Surfwatch during flexchange. Of course this was before we joined DC, so we paid the $109 fee each time. We did it again this year, obtaining a Ocean Pointe studio for May, then just recently we reexchanged in to a 2BR Lakeshore Reserve. We loved Lakeshore Reserve when we stayed two nights in 2010, looking forward to going back for six of our seven night reexchange. Of course even sweeter, we saved the $109 and $119 exchange fees. That just more than covered our $165 DC annual fee.

If I see a unit available in II, can the trip tell me what room type code it is before I do room size upgrade (I can use the code to determine the view at marriot.com)?

What is the "trip"? There is no way online to tell what type of unit/view it is other than based on occupancy. At some resorts, like Ocean Pointe, the occupancy of a 2BR can determine the view. Though at most resorts, you don't know unless you have the four letter unit code. You can't see this until after you confirmed. I am sure a an II rep can give you the unit code before confirmation.

These are mostly rewards points reservations that cancel at the last minute. Better to dump into II and maybe have someone show up.

For those who haven't bought in to DC, they should also need to account for the enrollment fee when assessing the projected savings vs. trading the old fashioned way.

I agree. The enrollment fee definitely needs to be taken in to account. Though getting two exchanges at no extra cost gets you to the break even point sooner. Of course if we didn't have DC we might not consider the re-exchange.

Could you please explain to me what is a reexchange and what is a flexchange. I've done many exchanges with II but never heard these terms before.

Thank you.

Flexchange - This is an exchange within 59 days of the travel dates.
Re-exchange - The process of using a current exchange confirmation that you have to make a second exchange in to a different resort. Your initial exchange is canceled and you get exchanged in to the new resort being requested.

is it still considered a ' re exchange' if one upgrades a reservation from the 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom unit at the same resort?

Thanks, Dioxide.

How do you re-exchange through II. Do you call them and tell them that you want to redeposit the week that you've booked? And you pay $109 for that? But it is free if you are enrolled in DC points?

That's fantastic, if it is accurate, since I've often had situations where I could not use a week that I had exchanged thru II and did not know what to do with it.

You don't redeposit anything. You call II and just tell them the current trade that you have and that you want to re-exchange for the resort/time of your choosing. Of course the original week you used has to have been able to "pull" the new resort that you want.

If you are not enrolled, you will have to pay the $119 exchange fee. If you are enrolled, then there is no fee. If your new resort is not a Marriott, then you would pay the full non Marriott exchange fee.

This only works if you have a plan of where you want to go. We just did this exact scenario. We had an exchange in to Ocean Pointe, and re-exchanged in to Lakeshore Reserve. It is important to note, that you can only re-exchange once. After that, you are stuck with the week.

thanks so much!! This is the best news I've heard in a long time. I never knew you could do this, and it takes so much pressure off us because changes in life circumstances have occasionally meant that we could not use a week that we had previously exchanged.

You need to know that the resort you want to retrade into must be available at the time of request.
