Would owners of Ko Olina please share their experiences of trading the studio portion of their 2 BR lock-off unit? It would be interesting to see how well it trades to the other islands as well as the types of trades you can get on the mainland, Caribbean, and elsewhere, both in platinum seasons and non-platinum seasons.

Thanks much.

Trade results

We are currently staying in a DSV1 2 bdrm villa on a flextime exchange for a 2011 studio week from KoOlina. Might not be exactly the type of information you are seeking due to the fact it was a flextime exchange for a previously deposited unit.

Mike,

I don't have a Ko Olina Studio, so others will chime in with actual experience, but I would speculate that its trade power would be similar to/better than your Desert Springs Villas Studio.

I would think it would have plenty of power to trade into the other Hawaii properties, the problem is that you would have the same limitation I have with my MOC ---- I can only request another Studio. So, even if you have enough power to get a KBC 1BR, you're dependent on that unit being available for online exchange, versus getting it in an on-going trade request. I don't know how frequently those units are sitting there.

I know you're considering buying a Ko Olina EOY -- another thing to add to the equation is, in addition to giving you the Ko Olina 1BR that you want to occupy (and the lock-off for trading), this does give you that option to have two consecutive weeks at Ko Olina in a particular year -- the classic sales pitch does ring true here. You could stay week 1 in your Studio and week 2 in your 1BR.

The other interesting thing to consider is that owning a Ko Olina week works nicely with your Platinum DSV property -- you can now book 13 month reservations if that is consistent with the timing of your planned travel -- if you want to go to Ko Olina in Q1 (not sure which units you're occupying and which units you're trading, but this gives you more control over both weeks).

Good luck with your consideration, and I hope we hear some more data from Ko Olina owners!

Best,

Greg

Our Maui and Ko Olina studios each have excellent trading power. Last year I even got a 1BR in the original section at Maui for my Ko Olina studio (and this was outside of flexchange).

Thanks for everyone's insights. It sounds like there are options using the studio for trade. Not sure which direction we will go with this, but always interested to learn from experiences that others have. If anyone else has experiences to share, we would certainly appreciate it. Cheers.

We deposited our mountain view studio and got a 2BR unit early June (beautiful weather!) at the Four Seasons Scottsdale, AZ. Oh my God what a wonderful place! Daily maid service too!
