Just got rejected by Front Desk to use our Marriott Gift Card at checkout. Has this happened to any of you recently when checking out of a Vistana property?
Visa gift cards have their own set of problems. You often can't make a purchase for more than the amount of the card. If the card has has something spent on it already, you need to know exactly how much is left and tell the merchant to charge only that amount. They also often carry fees if you don't use them within a certain period of time and there are fees to buy them. PITA I tell ya.This is why I never use gift cards unless it’s a visa GC. Why give someone a GC to only one place?
This was our experience many years back with the Marriott gift cards. The properties had no idea what they were. I don't think they get them very often. Same thing sometimes with cruise line gift cards. They may be okay to pay for the cruise online, but don't expect to be able to use them for onboard spending.I've had trouble with Marriott gift cards at many hotels. No one at the front desk ever seems to know how to use them. So I would say it's not just Vistana properties, it's most properties.
