I just spoke to a co-worker who says MVCI is selling resales at about 1/2 off and they still get Mariott Rewards points but not the new system. Looks like a great way to go so thought I would share

Interesting....I guess they are waking up. If they reduce another 50% they might be getting closer to market value.

My guess is that they can still sell as a premium to the eBay resellers. There's a degree of safety in buying from Marriott and there are buyers willing to pay more for that perceived security.

Wonder where the inventory is coming from? ROFR?

These are all weeks owned by individual owners like us who have listed them for sale through Marriott. I sold my Waiohai week this way and had a Sabal Palms unit listed when Marriott decided to buy it back from me for the trust.

Marriott Manor Club - 3 weeks platinum, 2 weeks at Marriott Beachplace Towers, and 1 week at Marriott Canyon Villas
Pushing the idea of getting MR points for trading every year seems misdirected in this economy and the ever increasing annual MF to the level you could buy the points from Marriott and still have your week to use. Getting 110,000 pts for MMC was great when MF was $450 but very doubtful now at $1000 for the same number of points.

How can that be the case when you get the MR points? MVCI will not honor MR points if sold privately resale?

Prior to the introduction of the DC, Weeks sold through the Marriott Resales office had always been considered to be direct purchases - pricing was the same as direct and the Marriott Rewards benefit was included. (We bought two weeks and didn't realize one was actually a Marriott Resale until we noticed the differences in the two contracts while signing. The rep advised it made no material difference, one was simply a week that Marriott had obtained from a former owner.)

The difference now is that Weeks sold through that office are no longer considered for all intents and purposes to be direct purchases. Prices are discounted and not all Marriott Resales Weeks are eligible for DC enrollment, but the MR benefit remains.

Interesting sales strategy- by selling resale weeks eligible for MR points, they potentially get more weeks to use as they see fit ( rental or inventory for DC).

True, but I think the main reason they do it is to help with the resales, where they get a 40% commission on the sale. I do not understand why they do not include full DC eligibility on such resale weeks. These are not the same thing to MVCI as resale weeks bought on the private market through Red Week, Ebay, or elsewhere.
