I had 2 certificates for free stays thru my Marriott credit card that I just cancelled. The certificates did NOT automatically post back to my Marriott Bonvoy rewards account. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to be returned to my account?

Would rather handle this sooner than later given the current situation with all the cancellations taking place.

You need to call them. I did that with my 5-night certificate a month ago and I waited a week. Nothing. I called and the agent said "generally" the certificate should return to the account immediately but sometimes they don't. She manually released the certificate back to my account.

FWIW, and while it may be buried in one of the announcements, I just confirmed that all 5-night certificates and credit card bonus nights expiring this year have been extended to Jan 31, 2021, even if you profile page doesn't reflect that yet. Good news for the conversion certificates set to expire the end of June 2020.

Thank you - just called them and phone was answered quickly. The rep located the cancellations and stayed certificates would be back into my rewards account in an hour. Both posted and have expiration dates of 3/26/2021 - so extended a full year. Kudos to Marriott!

Good info, but my credit card bonus still shows expiring in May 2020...so I’ll wait and see if they are extended soon.

Common problem before all this. Same with free certificates for 75 nights.

I have too many that will expire. Three certificates for 5-night Cat 1-4 , One certificate for 5-night Cat 5 and 4 credit card nights (1 night for 50K and 3 nights for 35K). Based on their correspondence they will all expire Jan 31st 2021. There is no plan to use any of them.

My FIL has a five night certificate that will be freed up when he cancels the reservation that is requiring a flight to get there. I suggested he plan a driving trip so he can use it there. Would that work for you?

Best regards.

Unfortunately not. My issue is that I also have banked Star Options that need to be used by end of this year which I have booked for Thanksgiving, lots of MVC points, banked ones will expire June 2021 and more to bank from this year. I also have lots of weeks deposited into II.

My 3 5-night Cat 1-4 certificates were supposed to be for a trip to Southern Utah with my friends and family from overseas which we have decided that they really should not come. My single night ones and the Cat 5 one would have been good for going to Newport Beach/Irvine area in June and that went out the door. All these are driving trips.

I am thinking of cancelling 2 Bonvoy Visa cards so that we reduce by 2 nights that we struggle to use each year.

Sorry to hear that. Hate to lose the freebies let alone the points paid for.

Best regards.

Thank you. You are always so kind.

The consolation is that the 5-night ones were from pre-merger days when I wanted to get the travel packages for the miles. The hotel side of the packages kept getting extended each time the agents cancelled my reservations and re-issued the certificates. I just was hoping to make use of them.

Hopefully, Marriott will extend your certificates and you can use those for a trip to Southern Utah next year - they are being pretty accommodating.

We too cashed in our mega balance of Marriott Rewards points prior to the merger for travel packages and used them to book a trip to Russia for 2 wks followed by a week in Brussels. Loved the trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg and was elated that I was able to manage our self tour and had a great time. I was really freaked about the Cyrillic alphabet, but we managed fine and enough folks English to provide assistance when needed. We used frequent flyer miles for the airfare and even had a stopover in Iceland on the way home - which was awesome. So a very nice trip.

Then used the two remaining certificates for rooms for my kids for Xmas markets in Germany. Neither this nor the Russia hotels were likely very cost effective use of the Marriott Rewards points as the hotel rates were relatively low - but such is life.

Hope the Marriott gods will be good to you and allow you to extend your certificates! Good luck!
