We had a reservation at the Marriott Desert springs villas from April 4 to 11. Because of the pandemic Marriott closed that week and cancelled our stay. They then sent me an email stating that I would have to join interval internatonal and pay their fee to join if i wasn't a member and than pay $99.00 for a trade for the week that THEY CANCELLED! even if I wanted to use my resort. Futhermore Interval would only give me a 4 month window to make this trade.NORMALLY IT IS UP TO TWO YEARS. In other words Interval is treating me as if I had cancelled the reservation at the last minute.I fully understand that no one could have predicted this pandemic but to not allow me to reschedule my week in the future through Marriott is just unfair.I have a deeded property and have paid my resort fees and California property taxes for 2020.I had no trouble booking the resort for 2021. Why shouLd I have to pay Interval International to use my own resort?? I fully understand that Marriott is worried about inventory problems squeezing in this years cancellations into the next years schedule but the resort will only be closed for a few months and Im sure most of us would be willing to wait an extra year or two to reschedule our cancelled week. shame on you marriott.SHAME ON YOU MARRIOTT

This has probably been discussed sufficiently In other threads over the past month or two, but I just wanted to say there are other opinions/perspectives that people have had on this. Take a look at some on the older threads if interested.

My own experience was quite different from the OP. I too lost a reservation in April. This crisis was so severe with people out of work and getting sick and dying that losing a week vacation was such a small thing to worry about. I Just figured the week was lost. I was therefore pleasantly surprised when Marriott went the extra mile to offer these 120-day certificates in II. I too had to enroll in II to get the certificate, and then pay $99 to exchange it, but I ended up exchanging it for a beautiful late August week at Newport Coast, all for a week I thought was lost, so I’m a pretty happy camper! I completely respect the OP’s frustration and opinion, but mine was different.

Don't feel all alone here. Marriott Vacation Club has also forced this policy onto Vistana (Starwood) owners via their recent acquisition of the Westin resorts. I'm still tying to work out how the 120-day window is likely to work for us.

I believe the the AC has a longer expiration date than 4 months, it’s that you can only confirm a reservation that is 120 days or closer to check in.

That is correct. My certificate was good through December 24, 2021, with the 120-day booking window as described.
