This makes sense and it is how most mergers happen. They can't really lay off housekeepers or front desk personnel. The only way that could happen is if they merged two properties in to one and close the other.

Middle and upper management is usually one of the biggest areas that they use to create savings in a merger. Too much overlap. You don't really need two CFO's.

I wonder where the cuts will come from-- Marriott or Starwood?

I wouldn't cry too many tears for these ex-executives. Inevitably, there are golden parachutes to soften their landing.

Unfortunately, executives aren't the only ones that will be hit. Many corporate functions will be downsized -- you don't need two accounting, HR, legal, etc. departments as well.

Regular joes at corporate will suffer as well and they don't have the golden parachutes that the executives have.
