A friend of mine is there now. Below are his comments. I guess we will have the same to look forward to next gold season (or seasons) as well. Heaven forbid they disturb the Platinum week owners/guests.
unfortunately we’re in the middle of a construction zone and we can’t wait to get out of here. Grinding pounding hammering spray painting drywall. I think Marriott would have done better to just shut the resort down for 6 months rather than go floor by floor and upset a whole years worth of people. Construction started in July and I’d guess they have done about 25%. I’ve been through plenty of school construction/renovation projects over my career and I have never seen anything like this. I’m just shaking my head at what I’m seeing and how they are going about their business. We’ve been coming for 14 years and if this was our first or second time I’d be saying never again. No exaggeration people are wearing ear plugs when they are out by the pool. They are removing the balcony walls using a metal grinder and the noise is shattering. First week we were on the first floor and it was gallows humor bad. Now we’re on the third floor and half the corridor is under construction. To get to your room you have to walk past the paint sprayer, wait for the drywall guy and excuse yourself to get past the construction workers and step over construction debris. Since this is Aruba, OSHA regulations don’t quite apply and there is dust, paint chips, paint mist floating around. By noon the construction noise throughout the resort is insane. You would be stunned. During the day you can’t go into the rooms because the jack hammering drives you out. Needless to say the wife is a bit upset.
The weather is Aruba typical and we found some new restaurants and the food has been great. But I really can’t believe what is going on with the resort. This is all really messed up. I could go on but I think you get the picture.
