I'm staying at Wyndham Avenue Plaza this week (deeded week, deeded unit - legacy owner) and we were down watching Nyx last night. There was a long pause in the parade and then the rumors started about a woman getting run over by a float. I thought it was a lie. Some parents lie to their kids about stuff like that to keep from them from getting too close to the floats or going in front of them. My son heard and got a little freaked out, said he was done for the night so we just packed up and left the parade - it wasn't moving anyway. Get back to the room and check the news. A woman DID get run over and DIED!

Apparently she was crossing the street and decided to go between a double float. She tripped on the hitch and fell. The driver could not have possibly seen her at all. And I guess the slow speed didn't matter. The police roped off the area and stopped the rest of the floats from continuing. The marching bands, dance crews, and other non-float parade people were rerouted and continued the parade. Today's parades are canceled. Muses will roll tomorrow instead.

Every year there's something. Someone shoots someone, a building catches fire, there's a flood... This city is wonderful. It's also horrible.

My friend is in Nyx. It's a horrible tragedy.
