As I mentioned in another thread, we are planning a trip to Madrid, Marbella Marriott and towns within driving distance of Marbella, and probably fly to Ireland for a few days too next late October.

We had planned to use our DC points or trade or DSV via II to get a unit at Marbella for a week. Turns out I was able to trade our Welk 1BR for a 2BR Marbella, but from Nov 6-13. I jumped at it as it's the second leg of an ePlus trade. We would go to the other locations at the front end of the trip.

Based on some reading we just did, it sounds like Spain and Ireland normally get about 24 days of rain in November. October is more like 12-15 as I recall. Based on experiences that you may have had, how much rain is likely and what type of rain is it (i.e. Short hard rain or longer lighter rain, or something else)? We are trying to decide if there will really be much difference between October 17 and up to Nov 13.

The bottom line is whether the weather would be good enough to enjoy the experience. We would appreciate the perspective of those who have experienced it.

Thanks.

Mike

We have enjoyed very good weather in Spain in November and find it quite a good time to go although you will find some restaurants etc along the coast have closed for the winter.
It is normally pleasantly warm.
There can be a fair amount of rain, but if there is it tends to be in bursts so not too disruptive.

Dublin will be noticeably cooler, even in October (in England just now it is positively cold!)
but for a City break this should be less of an issue.

Barry, thanks for your insights. That is what we are hoping for. Now for the fun part of making all of our arrangements.

Best regards.

I also think Marbella tends to be a bit dryer than Madrid, so having Marbella at the end of your trip likely provides you the best chance of minimizing the rain days (going with averages of course) over your entire trip.

Ireland is very green for a reason......rain. Expect lots of it, particularly in October and November. I don't think there's much of a difference between the two months and if it's not raining it'll most likely still be cloudy but you don't go to Dublin for the sun!

I was rather amazed myself though to see that apparently Marbella typically has 119mm of rain in November whilst Dublin only has 67mm in October!

Only a snapshot but when we went to Spain last Oct/Nov we had very nice weather for 3 weeks. We had a nice mix of sunny and overcast days with rain only a couple of times. As previously suggested the rainy days were not a wash. While on Mallorca (last week of Oct) we were on the beaches and swimming in the Ocean. I thought it was perfect.

Thanks for everyone's insights. After speaking with my DW's uncle, who has travelled a lot, last night, we are leaning toward forgoing Dublin for another time and take in more of Spain, including Barcelona. Maybe even get over to Lisbon. Still in the planning stages and having fun with the options available.
