Many items sold on Amazon have delayed delivery

It is the first time I noticed that many items, even Amazon prime, have the delivery date May 15th rather than 1-2 days. Is this just in Canada?

No, it's U.S. as well. I wondered why am I paying for "Prime" and having to wait a week or two for delivery of non-covid-19 products.?

I ordered a Willie Nelson songbook on Prime, and it's expected delivery date is 4/30. I was really hoping to use it while we are all house bound.

It could be because Amazon has a limited distribution capacity or because many items are not being produced right now. The message on their website is that they are prioritizing the essential items. Because most of the items I am looking at have the same date, May 15th and it did not change from Yesterday, maybe they do not have a lot of the non-essential items in stock but they are expecting to get them once part of the country and the world is back at work.

“To serve our customers in need while also helping to ensure the safety of our associates, we’ve changed our logistics, transportation, supply chain, purchasing, and third-party seller processes to prioritize stocking and delivering items that are a higher priority for our customers,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “This has resulted in some of our delivery promises being longer than usual"

"It’s unclear if Amazon will refund Prime membership fees — either partially or fully — if the delays continue."

"....this is the current reality for Amazon customers and Amazon sellers alike: Five-day Prime delivery waits are the norm, and month-long waits are not uncommon. And it’s unclear how long it will last."

I doubt they would accept those excuses when the membership fee is due. :ponder:

I am going to ask for a partial refund for my prime membership. While I understand this is not an ordinary situation, the higher volumes they process also mean that they are making a lot more money so I do not see why I should be paying for something I am not getting.

I have ordered many items from Amazon and almost everything arrived well before the time stated, even if I was longer that the 2 days. I think they just cover themselves. Not having to go out for small items, like furniture polish, makes Prime worth it. It's a great service when I am "safe" at home.

I can concur to this for what I ordered last week and before. Yet, this seems to have changed for the worse in the last couple of days. I do not think Amazon would put May 15th as a delivery date if they expected to be able to deliver in 7 or 10 days.

It's been going on for about a month here, but I noticed yesterday that it was offering me 2 day shipping again and the no rush shipping option said something about that if I picked that, that would help people get their essential items quicker. I chose no rush shipping for my dishwasher detergent, but 2 day for my foot brace.

I ordered something on April 6, scheduled arrival of April 27. It's a gift for someone else and I had it shipped to them. I ordered some HDMI cables for myself on April 4, scheduled for April 25th. I agree quite annoying. I would like a partial refund of my prime membership as well. Before anyone comments, I know these are non-essential items. I can wait for them. But like someone else said Amazon is making a killing off of all the online ordering, why should we be supplementing that with a worthless prime membership.

Worthless? I’m still getting most of my orders with 2 day delivery and I’m watching a lot of Prime Video. We order a lot from Amazon and we’re getting it faster, cheaper, and a lot safer than if we had to go to a store and get it or order it from somewhere else and pay shipping. If anything, my Prime membership is even more valuable now.

Amazon has also increased the prices for a lot of items. In most cases it is no longer the cheapest solution.

I never seemed to get enough value out of a prime membership. But this is probably due to the fact that we do not order too much through them and most items are delivered within a day or two after the "prime" date. I've tried their free trial but can't justify the cost, even with the included video and music choices. Plenty of competition for streaming either music or video these days. I do not need most things I order instantly.

My local Costco non perisable food delivery is 10 days, but yesterday I received an Eddie Bauer delivery from across the country in 4 days.

I have been told some delivery dates were as late as June. Most come much sooner within days. Some dates told

Ordered April 9 told May 1, came this past Wednesday

Ordered April 23 told June 23, delivered today,

Ordered April 9 told, told May 15, changed to April 27, getting tomorrow

Some other items came within 2 days. I have prime.

FWIW, I have gone to buying direct from places rather than wait for Amazon in many cases. If I see something I want to buy on Amazon, I'll check the seller/manufacturer and find their website and buy from them. Those usually come in 3-5 days and cost a tiny bit more. I'm kind of mad at Amazon right now. I spend over $15K/year with them between home and business stuff and have several orders per week. Between the price hikes, lack of inventory, slow shipping and how they are treating their employees, the long dance they want me to do when I try to get a refund for stuff I never received, I'm feeling more and more motivated to pay more to buy from somewhere else.

My husband keeps telling me not to be mad at Amazon because it's total chaos for them too and they've never had to deal with a pandemic either, etc, etc, but meanwhile, other online retailers that I have regular orders with have prioritized my repeat deliveries over their new customers.

Forgot to put in my post, all the orders below are without the supposed benefit of prime:
  1. ordered a stainless steel bottom grid for our new quartz sink on April 13th, received it yesterday (April 16th)
  2. ordered 2 combination smoke / carbon monoxide detectors on April 13th; currently due April 22nd (obviously may come earlier, and probably will but they have not yet shipped as of this morning)
  3. before the above, the last order was a shower head ordered in January and I received it in 2 days
I think we can all agree that the smoke detectors are much more important than the sink grid...

Also, according to the Amazon website, all 3 of the items above were in stock items at time of ordering.

It might be related to the strike of Amazon workers that was reported a week or so ago where they did not believe they should be fulfilling non-essential items.

I can only hope Karma is about to extract her due from Amazon and Jeff Bezos.

"A virus-fueled surge in orders has created chaos behind the scenes at Amazon and confusion for customers."

"Amazon has had to adjust to sales growth in one month that usually would take years"

"Not every product is available to all shoppers. For some items, like toilet paper, Amazon has given priority
to members of its Prime service with recurring orders "
