I am thinking of spending 2012 thanksgiving at manor club.
We would arrive that wed before thanksgiving and leave the following sunday.
We are a family of 6 with four young kids ages 9,7,4,1.
Do you guys think it makes sense to go in November to Williamsburg with kids that young?
We were thinking of spending one day at the space museum and one day at the ripleys museum?
We just think the kids are way too young to enjoy colonial williamsburg jamestown or yorktown.
What do you guys think?
Is the indoor pool nice since from other threads I know in November the outdoor pool will be shut?
I hope Big Matt can reply since he lives in the area and knows Manor Club well.
Thanks to all you Tuggers for your advice.:)

I have stayed at manor club once and I did not go to anything in the area. I was commuting back and forth to Newport News,

The one thing that I did was swim in the indoor pool. It is pretty nice.

You didn't ask about the units, but they were about the nicest units I have stayed in, anywhere. My adult kids were with me and it is their second favorite TS - right behind Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge.

While I agree with you about Yorktown, you might want to reconsider taking the kids to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. I will caveat this upfront as we have only gone in the summer when they probably have many more activities, but when we stay at Manor Club, Colonial Williamsburg is our kids' (ages 7,5,3) favorite day. Plenty of activities designed for the young ones, such as showing how to make bricks with straw and mud and then letting them do it themselves, or playing colonial era games with other children who are actually role playing for that era. They also do special events for the holidays, starting the day after Thanksgiving --

My kids also enjoyed Jamestown Settlement (not to be confused with the National Park site which is next door). The museum is well done with a lot of displays designed for children, and our kids LOVED exploring the outdoor recreations of the settlement, Native American village, and the sailing ships. It is, however, probably a half day event. The web site is http://www.historyisfun.org/ Hope this helps!

Williamsburg is great at Thanksgiving - weather can be spotty but usually very reasonable. Walking around the restored area is a treat compared to the summer's heat. The restaurants and other attractions such as Jamestown are less crowded so you get to enjoy them better. If you play golf Ford's Colony and the Golden Horseshoe are great courses to play. Thanksgiving is all about our country's great historical legacy - no place better to enjoy this legacy than Historic Williamsburg!

There will be a ton going on in Colonial Williamsburg and even if you just walk around for free, you can still go into places like the Raleigh Tavern Bakery for a cookie and cider. I don't know what it costs for the kids, but it may be free for some.

Jamestown is absolutely geared to your kids other than the baby. They will really enjoy it.

One other thing you should definitely consider is Christmastown at Busch Gardens. It is worth the money IMO, but you would need to get over the Thanksgiving Holiday and right into the next one. Here is an interesting option for tickets that include Colonial Williamsburg:

Air & Space Museum in Newport News

Highly recommend the Air & Space Museum in Newport News. Very well arranged and displayed with so many hands-on displays and activities. Traveled with 2 boys that were 10 and 8 at the time, but all ages would enjoy.

I think that your oldest children would enjoy a lot of Williamsburg and even your 4 year old would enjoy some of it. I think that they still offer the ghost tours at night. They offer a lot of interactive exhibits for kids. Jamestown offers a replica of the original settlement and replicas of the original ships that brought the settlers over from England. Lots of neat stuff for kids. Go to the Colonial Williamsburg web site for activity listings.
