The resort beefed up the maintenance department with additional "very qualified" associates since my talk with the GM in July and the Board approved renovation of 124 of the 200 units in six months. The bad news is that Mr. Jordan [the GM] declined my invitation to join the Manor Club's Yahoo owners group.

OK - so this is not as sexy as the recent Grande Ocean update, but it's a start

You just don't have the same passion for Manor Club that JME has for Grande Ocean. :)

But, I appreciate what you are doing.

Thanks for all your work on behalf of we MMC and MSE owners.

when are board meetings typically? maybe they can open meetings up to members through audio call in #'s (or video) ? Just a thought.

I think the dial in number is a great idea.

Charles,
if you really commit to going to the meeting, I'll go also.

Matt, you and Charles live fairly close to Manor Club -- maybe you should both run for the HOA board. I used to think Manor Club's board was the best, but I'm not so sure anymore as they sent out no explanation of last year's dramatic MF increase - as well as no warning - and their communication with members has become non-existent.

Charles and Matt,

I would agree with Brian in that perhaps you should run for the HOA board. The events that Brian cites, i.e., no explanation for the increase in MF as well as a lack of good communication with the members were among the reasons that led to my spouse and I deciding to sell our MMC unit earlier this year. In recent years it seems as if the pattern of non communication was increasing and the MF were increasing even more so.

Next Board Meeting.

October 8, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Ford’s Colony Country Club.

That's the middle of the day on a Wednesday! I think that's pretty ridiculous. I guess it's no big deal for retired folks that live near by - but it's mighty inconvenient for me.

Missed the boat this year.

The volunteering to be on the board idea is not looking so good.

First, it's too late this year. A notice went out in March to solicit volunteers and I did not respond. Also, it's not an open election. Manor Club management and sitting board members pick the candidates. I may have too much of a reputation as a rabble rouser to have a chance.

I also learned that there are actually two boards: the Timeshare Association and Condominium BOD. The first body votes on issues pertaining to the villas and the second votes on things such as the landscaping, pool, and such.

I requested a copy of the by laws and I'll get in about two weeks.

My guess they do that for a reason. :wall:

The bad news is that Mr. Jordan [the GM] declined my invitation to join the Manor Club's Yahoo owners group.

I think that this shows a complete lack of respect for the owners. It appears that not only do they not want to communicate out to the owners, they also don't want to take the opportunity to listen. There would have been absolutly no harm in joining the group. They didn't have to make it an open Q&A forum but could have just listened to what the owners had to say.

I think the GM needs to be reminded who pays his salary. It is all of the owners who pay it through the management fee to Marriott.

HOA President on Board

I'm ecstatic to report that the Manor Club HOA prez joined the Manor Club Owners Yahoo group!

I will not cut/paste (he does not have an email?!?), but I will send Mr. Marriott a fax explaining my displeasure that a GM of my home resort does not accept an invite to listen to owner concerns. Maybe he can communicate to all his MVCI GM's that they should seek out opportunities to stay more intuned to owners thoughts/concerns.

A little friendly reminder from Uncle Bill would not hurt.

I would not do that - please. We are building bridges here and Mr. Jordan has been a gentleman towards me. Please - no poison pen notes or posts.

Charles

I am going to "cut/paste" this statement to Mr. Marriott himself later today! The more I think about this the more a POS I think Jordan is

As a fellow owner at Manor Club, I feel that referring to Thomas Jordan, the resort manager, as a "POS" on a public BBS is rather inappropriate. Whether he joins the Yahoo Group or not, I think he is entitled to a little respect. What's more, you catch a lot more bees with honey than with vinegar.

I am pleased to see the HOA president join the board as it is he and his board who are responsible for any deterioration of Manor Club over the years and for his apparent total lack of communications skill in letting owners know why they should have to put up with an 18% increase in MF last year.

Quite frankly, as an original owner of MMC, IMO the resort is not managed nearly as well as it was under the former GM, Glenn Knorr. When Jordan was brought in (from Desert Springs I believe) there were changes that I observed in upkeep, etc. In my discussions with Jordan, it is my belief that he doesn't realize he works for the owners. Unfortunately, that is a problem with many HOA Presidents too, making decisions on our behalf without any communications.

Hopefully both will join the party, but I have no intention of taking it easy on either of them if I feel the job isn't being done to the level it should.
