I just returned from MC and was wondering if anyone has been bothered by people smoking in the area just in front of some of the screened porches.

We had a ground floor room, which I prefer, facing the parking lot. Every morning several guests, including one cigar smoker, would gather at the bench on the walkway by the rooms and light up. Of course the smoke made its way to our porch. It didnt bother us that much but I could see how it could be very annoying to someone very sensitive to smoke or a family who spent a lot of time using the porch.
I suggested to management that smoking not be allowed so close to non smoking rooms. They said they would note my concerns.

Thoughts?

Don't forget where the Manor Club is located. Virginia is a big tobacco state and the non smoking laws are not enforced like they are up North.

Marylyn,
the non-smoking laws are taken very seriously in Virginia.

You can buy cigarettes for a very low price in Virginia which represents the limited taxation on tobacco. I once toured the Phillip Morris plant in Richmond when I was in grad school 20 years ago and there were signs everywhere that said thing like "It is your right as an employee of Phillip Morris to smoke on the job." Those days have been over for years.
