I went to a Wyndham timeshare presentation the other day. Of course they were trying their best to entice us into buying any points package. Our goal is to stay at the Beachwalk in Waikiki so we emphasized that in our conversation with the sales people. When they got down to 105,000 points I mentioned that I couldn't book a week in January in Waikiki for that amount of points, so that the purchase wouldn't even give me one weeks vacation. Then the mentioned something that didn't make sense. They said that if I saw Beachwalk in Waikiki in the Wyndham inventory, I could call up the Wyndham RCI representative and book Beachwalk for 70,000 points by paying the RCI reservation fee even if RCI did not have the Beachwalk Waikiki in their inventory. Any thoughts?

I think you either mis-understood, or you were lied to:

The chart shows that you can use as little as 74000 points to reserve a one bedroom through RCI

But there is no quiet season at Waikiki

And if you call RCI or do the deal yourself online, you or the RCI rep can only see RCI deposits

I think if you had purchased the points you would have been dissapointed

Rescind ... as you can buy on the resale market more than enough points to book and several years worth of MFs.

Twisting truth into what YOU want to hear is called SALES SPIN. Your $15,000+ worth Wyndham points could be gotten for FREE or under $500 if you pay the closing costs.

I didn't buy the Wyndham offer. Since I learned about resales in 2006 I have only bought Hilton resales. They have been very reliable in getting me to Waikiki in the winter. However, I am always looking for otherways to get to Waikiki in the winter if the Hilton availability is not there.

Except for gaining elite status the Hilton resale timeshares give you the same privilieges to book as the developer purchased timeshares. If I buy Wyndham resales do they have the same value, availability, and privileges as buying directly from Wyndham?

Wyndham Waikiki Beachwalk is a wonderful resort. We stayed there last January.

We own our Wyndham points (resale off Ebay) at Wyndham Smoky Mountains in Sevierville (very low fees) and I was able to book at Wyndham's Waikiki Beachwalk at the 8 month window. It seemed like the availability was more for the lower floor one and two bedroom units. I'm sure the folks who own at Waikiki Beachwalk probably book the higher floor units early using their home resort advantage.

Saying that, I was able to add a few nights to our trip last minute in a higher floor 1 bedroom unit (they gave me a corner unit) - it was amazing. It had views of Diamond Head and the ocean.

If you want the high floors with the better views at Wyndham Waikiki Beachwalk, I'd probably try to look for at least some of my points deeded there. If lower floor units will be okay, then I'd look for the best value points wise. Oh, yeah, and buy resale.
