They've updated the article since my response. They had upgraded it to a hurricane 14 minutes before my post, according to the revised article, and the original article didn't reflect that yet.

In the original article, the headline identified it as Hurricane Sam, and the body indicated that it could reach hurricane status tonight or tomorrow.

Here is the graphic for Hurricane Sam from NOAA. It looks like it's going to be powerful. Hopefully, if it gets to a category 4 or 5, it will start to die out quickly. When it gets that powerful, it starts to "destroy" itself. The extreme low pressure that gives it is power starts to collapse the eye, weakening it.
