Stop & Shop will stop selling cigarettes and vapes this week as part of its dramatic commitment to 'community wellness'.

The American retailer will remove tobacco products from all 360 of its stores across the northeast from August 31.

The announcement follows the lead of CVS, Target and Walmart.

It's interesting. Here the rules changed recently that any store with a pharmacy can't sell cigarettes. I think it was the pharmacists professional regulator that changed that rule.

Almost immediately the largest grocery chain (which also has a pharmacy on site) stopped selling tobacco at customer service and opened "convenience" stores with separate entrances in their buildings. Which basically just sell cigarettes.

I rarely see many smokers like in the past. Mostly older people. I do see younger people vaping. I ask a guy in his 20's why he vapes instead of smokes and he said it's the cost and smell meaning vaping is cheaper and doesn't make everything stink.

When I was in school, they continually preached to us about the evils of smoking. But if you walked past the teachers' lounge during break when someone opened the lounge door to go in or out, you would get drenched with the smoke fumes.

I would never suggest someone take up vaping, but I don't get the anti-vaping stuff either - it seems far less likely to be harmful to someone than smoking, and is far less smelly and annoying I'd have to imagine to non-smokers. I wanted my mom to try vs her smoking, both to save money and to get rid of the smell (and maybe to be less bad for her) but I can't get them shipped in NY for whatever reason. Does anyone understand why we can get alcohol shipped but not cigs or vapes? It all makes no sense to me.

I was a smoker of maybe a pack a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I tried a vape pen and it just didn't have the same kick as the real thing. I didn't like it. I also didn't like the smell of cigarettes. Where vape really shines is with pot, imo. I was given a rechargeable vape pen loaded with THC oil. I've had it for a few years now and rarely use it. I use it when my lower back tweaks out which is seldom. The odor was fruity which is much better than the skunk smell of regular weed, imo. It seems surreal that I can go to a pot store next to Costco and buy weed or weed products.

Maybe. For me, it was that I could feel the smoke enter my lungs when I inhaled and didn't really notice the vapor at all when I inhaled. The sensation of inhaling and exhaling was an enjoyable part of the smoking experience for me. Especially while drinking coffee or alcohol.

I think there was research into third party refills that had impurities/contaminants which caused lung damage which was worse than smoking and at an alarming rate. This was also involving young people using flavored "vapes", so their young lungs may have been more susceptible.

I'm with you. Las Vegas, New Orleans, ski resorts, any city in California -- these are just a few places I've been in the last few years where the smell on the street is very prevalent in my experience.

If I remember correctly from several years ago when there were numerous Hospital Visits/Admissions associated with Vaping all or almost all of the cases were associated with people that were using third party products. Many of which were made in someone's garage or basement - not major manufacturers such as Vuse. Many of these underground/third party manufacturers used Liquid Vitamin E Oil in the Process. With little to no research or understanding about the properties of Vitamin E Oil. Vitamin E Oil can be beneficial when taken orally. However when inhaled the body does not absorb the Vitamin E Oil in a beneficial way but in fact it can do harm in the Lungs.

Smoking of Marijuana causes many health issues similar to smoking Tobacco. I remember watching a Day Time News Program interviewing 3 middle aged Women that were fighting Cancer and using Marijuana to help with the side effects of the treatment. The Interviewer asked them if they rolled their own cigarettes or were they able to buy pre-rolled. All 3 of the women asked the Interviewer if he was nuts. They said smoking Marijuana has serious negative medicine consequences and that they were all using edibles.

No judgement here, but why not use edibles? Smoking and/or vaping is so bad for one's health, I don't understand why people even consider it. I believe there can be some benefits w/ marijuana use for certain health issues, but smoking or vaping seems like it just trades one problem for another, especially when there is a super low-risk alternative in edibles.

The high is different. If you want relief now you inhale and titrate. If you want relief later, edibles work fine, but it's difficult to know how much you may need meaning it's hard to titrate. It only takes a hit or two off a vape pen to feel relief so I doubt this kind of vaping is harming health in any measurable way.

Yes - if you use non-regulated sources, you can get horrible products. I imagine this may have happened in the past with non-regulated cigs too. If you read that - it says it's a specific additive, from "informal sources" mostly in Marijuana delivery. To me, this is about the difference between street drugs and regulated ones.

I have no interest in doing either, but I also think that if there's someone who's smoking a pack or more a day, it's worth trying something else. My laymans understanding is cigarette smoking is so bad, most other options short of arsenic dosing is likely to be better (hyperbole, but only a little).

I smoked weed through the 70s to mid 80s, before the mega THC strains available now.

I do use CBD + Melatonin gummies now as a sleep aid. I've tried the gummies with THC but it's not the same buzz as smoking. It just made me lethargic with raving munchies. I doubt I could handle smoking today's weed, I don't know how Snoop Dogg or Willie Nelson do it. It's not like today's potheads are smoking 10 a day like cigarettes, that would be an expensive habit.
