Got the usual effort to get me to sign up for the "update presentation".
Her offer: $75 gift card plus the new hard directory to hear about the "new names" and levels of membership plus a free breakfast or lunch. (Might have made another offer including Rewards points, but I use something else for that.)
My reply: I don't want a directory and I don't do sales presentations for less than $150.
Her response: How about $100?
Me: $150 is my limit.
Her: let me have the boss reply.
Him: I can go to $125.
Me: I won't do less than $150.
Them: $125 is as high as we'll go, too bad--here is your folder of information during your stay...enjoy!
(There was also only 1 followup phone call a few days later, but no pressure once I confirmed my no interest in attending.)

I obviously do it wrong. :) My wife and I usually go to the presentations. With a family of seven the "extras" come in handy. I also try to keep up on all they are doing to help my father out. He originally bought in and now it is in a trust for mine and my brother's family. Anyway... we have only landed in two really high pressure sales settings over the last 15 or so years. They always want us to improve our holdings or fix something missed. I originally believed there was an issue my aging father messed up... then I caught on to the tactics.

Branson has always been pretty low key and the Dells has gotten better. Our second bad experience was there a few years ago. Bonnet Creek was our first bad experience. Last week we were at Sea Gardens and we were in and out in 90 minutes and that was with me asking a few questions. I figure it is well worth the gift if I keep it under two hours. So far, most of the time, we don't leave feeling dirty. Maybe we have just been fortunate. I have never thought of haggling over the gift though... sounds like I may be missing out! I may try that next time. We will be at Steamboat Springs later this summer. Thanks for the play by play. :)
