Hi,

I just bought a new timeshare and I am obliged to pay the maintenance fees starting with 2016. Now the resort asks me to pay the maintenance fees for 2016 AND Taxes for 2015.

The ebay auction I won says I would have to pay the maintenance fees beginning 2016 but said nothing about taxes from 2015. Sumday now argues that taxes from 2015 are actually part of the maintenance fees of 2016. It sounds odd to me but that doesn't mean it is not true.

Is it correct what they are stating?

With my timeshares the small amount of taxes is included with the current years' maintenance fee bills.

SumDay is likely correct; property taxes are sometimes billed "in arrears". I am guessing that you are not being asked to pay both the 2015 and 2016 property taxes now, but only the 2015 taxes which may very well be incorporated into your (and all others at that resort) 2016 maintenance fee bill, an "out of synch" matter over which the seller has no procedural influence or control. If so, you (and all others at that resort) will be billed for 2016 property taxes in the 2017 maintenance fee bill.

You could argue with the seller that you didn't own in 2015 and shouldn't be responsible for 2015 taxes, but sellers do not determine resort billing practices.
It's your decision regarding how much time and effort you really want to expend over an amount of money which is almost certainly less than $50.00 USD in total.
