signed up for Marriotts rewards for our one week @ shadow ridge in Palm desert.Agents did not explain that we would have to pay maintenance fees for the rewards points also..now we are hit with $649.00 for our week and another $690.00 for transferring over to the rewards points every year.I think we just been scamed...

This is confusing because MF's are not charged for Marriott Rewards Points. Did you purchase Destination Club Points that can be exchanged for MR Points as one of many usage options? If that's the case then yes, MF's are due for the new product you purchased regardless of the usage option you choose.

Maintenance fees are due every year. You have the option of using it however you wish, stay at the resort, deposit into an exchange company to trade for a different resort, convert to reward points. It is no scam. All these options cost money.

Yes, but the OP says he's being charged this year, "with $649.00 for our week and another $690.00 for transferring over to the rewards points every year." You definitely don't pay twice for usage of the same Week which is what makes me think s/he may have bought Destination Club Points.

It sounds to me like the OP bought some DC points when at Shadow Ridge. The MF posted look like an EOY and the $690 look like 1000 points plus DC membership.

Just my take.

I believe the same holds true for DC points. MF is payable every year and it is up to the owner how the points are used or converted.

This is what I am thinking. The OP actually has more than what they had before. I think DC points MFs are now $0.50 per point, plus what would be $185 for the DC annual fee. If it is 1000 points, that works out to $685. Though I suspect they were also able to enroll their Shadow Ridge every other year week in the program for free. So they "saved" $2395 on that.

They have their original ownership plus DC points. Not paying double for the same thing, but they are paying double for not much more. It seems that the OP is very confused about what they actually purchased.

I think we might both be saying the same thing? The problem here seems to be that if the OP did purchase DC Points intending to convert them to MR Points, which is what appears to have happened, s/he didn't understand that she was purchasing something in addition to the Week s/he already owned.
