We are car-less today (and hopefully only today). If I could walk, I could walk to PO and PT, but since I can't I will take Lyft. Our volunteer post office is on the way (if you go that route) to physical therapy. Do I need to schedule a ride to the PO, then a second ride two minutes later? Packages I am dropping off are prepaid so I just hand them over and walk out, but if folks ahead of me have large packages on the counter I don't "push in" until they are done and before next number is called. Do I tell the driver if they want to wait, I'll schedule the second ride to take me three more blocks? Or do I set up a ride to PT, ask them to swing by PO while I hobble in, and then tip extra ($5?? ride with no stops is about $8 from home to PT). Are they allowed to stop mid-way? What's the best way to handle this 6 block ride?

By us an Uber or a Lyft will wait for you, but they will charge you for the waiting time, like a taxi. It's usually not that much.

Just tell the driver when you get into the car that you need to make a stop.

I looked online. It seems to vary in different markets.

First Lyft driver said they could only stop for 3 minutes, so I said let's try it. I pointed at the handicapped spot, handed him my permit, and was in and out the PO door in a flash because the place was empty at 12:15.

It is far easier for everyone except for you if you just get dropped off and then call another Uber/Lyft. Consider that as an option. You can easily call another Lyft/Uber when you are finishing up your business.

I think that depends on where you are. From what I understand (at least what dd tells me) in our area Uber and Lyft aren't readily available like they are in other areas. So if you do get a ride you might not want to let them go until you are done with your errands.

They should be allowed to charge per minute of waiting time. I am sure its a common situation.

I apologize for my answer......I didn't see the part about you stopping before your final destination. I thought the PO was your final destination. In that case, you should be fine stopping for a short time. I also believe that with Uber you have the option to have a stop on the way to the final destination to drop off passengers. Not sure about Lyft.

I never use Uber, but as a former Lyft driver, you can select an additional stop. You can look that up in the Lyft help section. I had several customers who used the app to go with 2 stops. One was a round-trip, where a mother had me pick her and her kids up at their home, the stop was at the elementary school, then the end was back at their home.

Can you elaborate on how their 'bill' then was tabulated (details) ?

I just drove and received compensation, I don't know about their costs. But, from what the site says, they're charged the normal rate per mile, and waiting time at the first stop. All the person has to do is once they set their final destination, there should be an option to add a stop in the app.

One thing that may make your life easier is to not stop at the Post Office at all. That's right, call the Post Office 24 hours in advance and ask them to stop by and pick up all your outgoing packages when they swing by your place to do their deliveries. They have been offering this service for about 10 years or so and it's super convenient!

Not only that, they will deliver supplies to your home free! Flat rate boxes are still a good deal even though the price has gone up in recent years.

I'm a Top Rated eBay seller with one day handling. For the first 8 years of selling, Scheduled Pickups worked just fine. Then last summer our local Postmaster told the substitute carriers not to pick stuff up if they couldn't get back to the PO by closing. About the same time they changed my regular guy's schedule. Used to be he worked M-F or Tu-Sat, so I knew I was safe to put packages out to be picked up during the middle of the week. Now he has random days off, so I can't risk getting an account ding and losing my top rated status over late shipping (our regular mail time is 3pm; subs run three hours behind that, so no pickup on days subs work). We are lucky that the local Assistance League has a two person PO desk four blocks away in our residential neighborhood. When I can walk, we walk to the PO, and on to the medical building where our pharmacy is if needed. It actually gives us a reason to walk because we are very lazy. PHysical Therapy office is in the same building. Our hospital and duck park are also along this 15-20 minute residential neighborhood walk. Just heard a beep beep; they are picking Cliff up so he can go collect my car and shell out the $750 a new radiator cost.

I make regular use of free supply ordering. At least once a month there are rumors on my eBay boards that the PO will discontinue the free boxes because people abuse the system. That will be a dark day!

Uber (and I assume Lyft as well) has a dynamic pricing model. If that algorithm extends to wait time, I would expect that the wait time charge would also be dynamic. If there are is high driver availability, wait charges should be lower than when driver availability, when waiting for you increases wait times for other pickups.
