Lost my Ko Olina Club 2-bed due to Coronavirus

I had Ko Olina Club through Interval on May 9 2 bed unit and I obviously called them to see my options. Since I got the e-plus trade, I was able to change it to Kauai Beach Club in August but for a 1 bedroom. I have one trade left. This annoying site does not let me check exchanges past 90 days and also I paid $99 upgrade from my 1 bed to 2 bed unit, but now I have a 1 bed in Aug, but can't get refund on that $99. I told the customer service I want a refund if I do end up using this exchange and she said no it is nonrefundable. How stupid is that? That is basically theft, I didn't choose to change my vacation because of a personal reason, the entire world is in a crisis, I didn't ask to change my plans to another date, club, island, and to downgrade to a 1 bed unit. She told me just keep trying to get a 2 bed unit since you paid for it and won't be charged again for it.

What are my other options here? Is traveling to Hawaii (from LAX) in mid Aug going to be okay?

As Hawaii just extended their "lockdown", hard to say. If I were to guess, I would say it is likely you will be able to go. It's so hard to predict though. Many will say the opposite. But we are all guessing. It also depends on your comfort level. Some here are not going to travel this year "no matter what". My current plan is driving only destinations. But that could change later in the year.

You may as well hold onto it for now and maybe in June or July sometime start thinking of looking for other places if it turns out it still looks bad.

I take it you are a non enrolled owner?

MKO is open. Sounds like you did a normal retrade with e-plus. On the plus side for you, it is not economically viable to leave fleets of aircraft on the ground indefinitely. Therefore, my guess is that you will have some very intelligent minds in the private sector assisting their governmental counterparts to solve this crisis.

It is open, but, you have to stay in the villa to self quarantine the first 14 days. Has that changed?

I am not sure what a non enrolled owner is, but this is my last week, I gave my MVC back to Marriott, I was going to use my last week in May in Hawaii and end this timeshare business that I fell into it. I want my 7 day vacation and I will leave MVC alone for life.

I would like to cancel my exchange and use it for next year, but I paid $59 for e-trade, $155 for Marriott exchange, and $99 for upgrade. That's about $315 that if I cancel I don't get any of it back. Every company has become helping hands across America offering help and refunds except II.

As bitter of a pill as it is, trying for a two bedroom retrade is your best bet to utilize the upgrade charge that you have already paid. That is Interval's Eplus policy unless they change it, but so far that hasn't happened. We are stuck in the same predicament. We were supposed to be in a two bedroom unit in the USVI (Frenchman's Cove) in May, and now I have a replacement unit that I can use with a manual search. Who knows when we will be able to travel - I will probably pay to extend that week. No one caused this problem - not us, not Interval, not the vacation locations that are making it difficult, if not impossible to travel. It's just a pain all the way around.

I see that you are a TUG member. If you go to the bottom of the forums list (once you are logged in) you can place a sightings request, and ask other Tuggers to help with your search. Good luck! I hope that you are able to make an exchange that you are happy with.

Btw, we are also scheduled to travel to Hawaii in August. It's going to be a nail biter.

It doesn't seem quite like a normal Eplus retrade. If that was the case, the OP would only have been able to trade out 59 days from the checkin date of May 9th. So they would have only been able to trade out to the first part of July. They were able to trade out to August. Though it sounds like they had to use one of their Eplus retrades. There were other options, though none of them are great.

As to the OP, try contacting the TUG II Members Mailbox about the upgrade fee.

Many have reported on the II boards that the II customer service reps are able to lift the eplus flexchange restriction to allow booking further than 60 days.
Im wondering if OP can now see 60 days ahead of the August check in date online? Keep searching several times a day for a larger unit OP and good luck.

Sounds like the OP was seeing out 90 days instead of the usual 59. Before I had II help with my cancellations and overrides, I was also able to see 90 days out also.

Eventually, this is going to create a shortage of II inventory. If states remain closed, specifically Hawaii, many vacations will be deferred. There will be great competition for future exchanges. I hope you all see that getting anything at this point is a gift.

I have not cancelled our trip to Wyndham Shearwater yet for 6/6-6/20, but I have a feeling I will have to cancel. These exchanges are through RCI. Might as well stay home,. The 14-day quarantine doesn't appeal to me, even if it goes on for only that first week after we arrive. I don't want to just sit in the unit, and the beach is not close. Darn it.

We will also have to cancel Orlando for next month. Two weeks at Marriott's Cypress Harbour with all restaurants, Disney World, Universal, and Holyland Experience closed? Again, might as well stay home.

Thanks for the replies and yes you are right, if you call them they have the ability to look past the 59 days for any availability. That is how I went from May to August. Over the phone, I can ask them to check for me from now until I think July 2021. But you can't do this online on your own, you have to call and they can only do it. I wish I could just cancel the entire exchange, receive my refund, and just start from step 1.
