As a fixed week owner, I went to an owners update and listened to the pitch. Basically they offered the following:
Fixed week 25 3-br Orange Lake Resort East Village converts to 222k points. Add 115k for 337 total, for Preferred Platinum Reserve status.
Total buy is just under $25k for the points + fees, quoting $.19 per point ("great deal you'll never see again"). Adds 1576 in maintenance fees per year but has a 1500 fee credit so effectively offsets.
337k seems like I can easily replace my current fixed week plus a couple additional weeks as well with much better flexibility on dates and locations.
I pondered but declined and walked out with my bribe in hand, but then they offered something I guess is new, which is freeze current offer for 2 years and go to another presentation later with a 7 night stay somewhere for $1499 and option to keep the deal and apply the $1499 toward the purchase if so desired. Sounds pretty reasonable and it gives me time to do research at leisure rather than in a presentation room with "now or never" pressure.
My questions are:
(1) Can I match or exceed this offer on resale market? Is it even possible to convert to points without doing a deal like this?
(2) Am I better off sticking to the fixed week? They said due too shrinking pool of FW owners the maintenance fees
will rise faster than point plans so I should convert. I like the location and time but I haven't always been able to make it and I end up renting out, and sometimes for a loss.
Im curious on thoughts about this offer from those of you who may have converted to points or who know about the point system. Thanks!
