I am a Wyndham timeshare owner, VIP Gold, and am happy with a lot of their resort. But, my wife and I are now starting to expect a little more. We recently rented a week on redweek and stayed at Timberlodge in Tahoe. Wow, what a great vacation. We really enjoyed the Marriott, and as much as my wife hates the timeshare presentations, (another Wyndham negative
), I talked her into going to the Marriott presentation. I was interested in the progam and since coming home I have been reviewing some of the pages here and checking prices on resale.

We live in NC, and I think my choice for home resort would have to be Myrtle Beach. We can drive there in only 3 hours and it is very convenient for other family members to meet us there. After reviewing the pricing I have also considered Williamsburg, but to be honest, I can usually get a decent Wyndham resort there pretty cheap.

I already own some Wyn at MB and know that is something I have to reserve 13 months out. I am fairly happy with Wyn Seawatch, but will probably look to visit the Marriott there soon.

I am interested in more experienced Marriotters opinions on this strategy, also what would be the best strategy to guarantee a plat week useage? Also, I will retire in 3-4 years and would like to know if as an owner can I use the resort even on a week that I am not staying there. The Sales person at Timberlodge said that I could use my home resort since I am an "owner".

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Also, if anyone else needs info on Wyn I belong to a great yahoo group that can help with that.

Thanks in advance,
Thomas, NC:confused:

The only way to be guaranteed booking a week during Platinum season is to buy Plat. season at the resort. You "may" be able to trade into the resort during that time period using another week, but trading is never guaranteed. Also, keep mind that it is much harder to trade in using a non-Marriott week due to Marriott preference, and you will be unlikely to get a trade into a prime week outside of Flexchange unless trading with another Marriott (not impossible, but I wouldn't count on it).

As far as day pass usage, different resorts have their own policies and you should check with the resort directly.

Marriott does not have special owner nights available. You can get a 35% discount at your home property once you are a Marriott owner plus use your Marriott rewards visa for another 10%, for a total of 35% savings. You can also see if your home resort is available sometimes for getaways.
