How do the getaways work? I would like to go away for 4 days in early June to somewhere warm and lovely.

If you are asking about II getaways this might be better posted on the "exchanging" board. Maybe you are asking specifically about getaways at Marriott properties?
If you have a membership with II it's easy to see what's available. They are generally for a week, but you don't have to use all 7 nights. You would still pay the weekly rate, but could just check out early.
