I am currently in the process of purchasing a timeshare week. I am also interested in maybe looking around for a good deal on sone Wyndham points. I am in no hurry to buy them and may not be able to use all or some of them for a couple of years. My question is if I can find a good deal now and can not use all the points how hard is it to rent out extra points? Can you rent them out for enough $ to cover your MF?

From my understanding, Wyndham no longer allow you to rent out points. You can book units with your points, then rent out the unit.

As for "[covering] your MF", a lot depends on how much your MFs are and what demand there is for the unit you booked with your points.

Remember, because of the plight of the somewhat beleaguered timeshare industry, many units offered for rent are not garnering any takers. Also, many owners, because of low demand, have to settle for renting their units for below their MFs.

You dont rent the points exactly, you rent a unit in a resort for a few days to a week...and how easy or difficult it is depends on the week you reserve

Wyndham points are, I think, ideal to use in this way, because you can cancel the reservation you make and get your points back as long as your check in date is at least 15 days away.

Most of the time however you will do well to cover your maintenance fees...the tough part isnt so much renting it. the tough part is making a profit....You will be competing with so called mega renters...platinum vips, that can get a 50% discount on the points needed to reserve a unit and well as Wyndhams own website, www.extraholidays.com

look at ebay rentals

I too was looking at buying Wyndham points but my research has found renting places for cash is much less risky, and often less expensive. The Colorado resorts have plenty of weeks available for times I want, eBay and Tug both. If I can't use up all the points then what. If I can't find a week I want with cash then no big deal.
