I found some inexpensive airfare from BOS to LGB. JetBlue, non-stop, for $199. How's the drive from LGB to Palm Springs? Google maps says 1 1/2 hrs, but 3 1/2 with traffic. Which one is it?
We would be arriving on the 16th so the trip might not be too bad being a holiday. Would getting back to LGB for a 11:30am flight later in the week be more congested?
What's the latest status of JetBlue? Since oil prices dropped I don't see too many stories of airlines going under.

We live close to LGB and travel quite a bit to Palm Springs area for day trips at non peak traffic times, it is an easy 1 1/2 hour trip.

Travel times here always depends on the time of day.

Are you arriving tomorrow the 16th? If so Friday is the worst day to travel on a long weekend since so many folks are getting out of town. If you leave on a Friday afternoon after 3PM from LGB, expect your drive time to be the longer time versus the shorter time.

My bad...I would be arriving Feb 16th (which is President's Day). How is traffic driving back TO LGB?

So I guess it's like any other major city. Avoid the 3 pm-6 pm outbound and the 6am to 9am inbound traffic.

If you can travel from 10 - 3 you should be OK either way.

Traffic from LGB to PS will be heaviest in the afternoon (people work in LA, but live in Riverside etc for cheaper housing).

Traffic from PS to LGB will be heaviest in the morning as the commuters go into LA.

Weekends will be better, but around here, you just never know.
