I'm staying in Little Gull. The units are nice but what is the deal with the beach? There is terrible seaweed all over the sand and in the water. Other beaches in the area aren't like this. Is this just a crazy fluke that I'm "lucky" to experience this week or is this a normal phenomenon on this beach? I'm hoping it clears by tomorrow so we don't have to drive to a beach.
Not a normal thing at all and can happen on any Beach in Florida. My guess is that there has been some stormy weather out in the Gulf that has blown in the sea weed. Last week when we were there the water was crystal clear all the way out to neck deep. Many myths get started about the Gulf. When I was a kid older folks inland used to say there were no sharks in the Gulf! Stop in at Mote Marine and look at the latest capture in the shark tank. Another one is that Red tide is only on Sarasota Beaches and never in Clearwater! When in fact it can happen anywhere in the Gulf. First time I went to Indian Rocks Beach as a child the place was full of green seaweed. Even out away from the Beach. I never wanted to go back because I thought it was a dirty beach and liked Melborne better. I hope it clears up for you!
The red algae isn't as bad as it was. We enjoyed a beautiful day on the beach!
We are a little concerned about Hurricane Dolly in the gulf. The waves were the biggest we have ever seen here! My mom couldn't even go in the water! The kids loved the boogie boarding.
Still getting lots of waves but nothing else. Weather holding out and no red tide!
Disney's Magic Kingdom yesterday had VERY light lines (20 minutes at the most)! Of course, we have the usual Orlando torrential downpour in the late afternoon but at least it cooled things down!
