Today when I signed on to Marriott Vacation Club a window popped up about the increase in price to join the DC program. There was an asterist about external purchase price. The last thing was "Offer ends 6/13/12". That made think. "Are external weeks going to be allowed to join after the increase and at what price. I had an online chat with a Marriott representer and the answers are "Yes they can enroll and at the same price as an internal purchase". The chat went as follows:

Hi! My name is Susan W.. How may I help you?

Customer: Are External weeks still going to be able to enroll after the price goes up on June 14th?

Susan W.: Only external weeks that were purchased before June 20, 2010 can be enrolled in the program. That is not going to change when the price goes up on June 14, 2012.

Customer: External weeks bought before June 20, 2010 will still be able enroll even after the price increase. Am I understanding correctly?

Susan W.: Yes, that is correct. If the week was purchased prior to June 20, 2010, it can be enrolled even after the price increase.

Customer: Is it going to e at the same price as the weeks purchased from Marriott after June 14th?

Susan W.: Yes, beginning June 14, 2012 all enrollment fees will be $2,395.00. It doesn't matter how many weeks you are enrolling or where you purchased the week, the price will be $2,395.00.

Customer: okay - Thank you

Susan W.: You are welcome. Thank you for contacting us.

Let's guess some more! At some point, betcha that they will welcome back all prodigals and apostates - people who bought after-market, but AFTER the Magic Date of 6/20/10 - and maybe charge THEM something like 5 grand (???) to enroll! That way, Marriott has enough of your money to salve their wounds from you NOT having bought it directly from them in the first place, and now has access to MORE Marriott inventory. There will be surreptitious little $$ feelers, as they determine just how much they can get away with, and and what point this seems like s good deal to those who still are buying up old weeks from people who are selling them cheap. System works best for THEM when they build a basket that holds more eggs. Could benefit us, too, if that means more weeks/properties/points/chiclets/tokens/credits/gummiebears ("Allo - thees ees Peggie . . "), or whatever they are dealing in at that time. I have been a Mom for a long time - I am getting that "I told you so!" feeling again . . . and am prepared to wait it out.http://tugbbs.com/forums/images/smilies/hysterical.gif

Not $5K - I predict Marriott will require you to purchase a load of Trust points as a condition for enrolling those prodigal weeks.

I am sitting pretty with my current inventory. No need or desire for more weeks or points.

I'm going to say sliding scale, or buy in based on how much value your week bring to Marriott. Example; Week 7 Mountain side week sells on resale today. That week would be great to offer in the trust or in the exchange pool. How can Marriott get it, ROFR is expensive and would bring little profit when resold as points. They could offer this new owner an enrollment for a small purchase of trust points or fee. On the other end of the scale is a silver week almost anywhere, bringing this into the trust or exchange pool does little to enhace the profile of the exchange system. Marriott could excersise ROFR and mark up the points for sale, but the high mf/point isn't good for the trust. They could offer the new buyer enrollment for a higher point buy in or fee. Its kind of a, what can you bring to the club deal. If we like what you can give us, we'll let you in the club for less.

I guessing that folks who haven't enrolled after 2 years for $695, are probably not inclined to enroll on June 15th for $2395.
