hi folks,

the family (mostly my son) wants to visit the Legoland in CA. Do you have any suggestion as to where to stay. I'm trying to balance out the cost of visiting the park along with lodging and food. Thanks in advance.

There is also HGVC Marbrisa, it has a back gate into Legoland. There is a lot of new construction around the super pool so there should be plenty of availability.

Check Costco too, they sell discount LL tickets. There is one close by on Palomar Airport Rd.

If you are looking for a timeshare, the 2 mentioned above are the closest and each are walking distance to Legoland.

If you are looking for a hotel, Sheraton (location within Marbrisa) is also walking distance. If you will have a car, just look for any hotel in Carlsbad. You'll find many nice ones with across from the ocean. There are a couple on the beach. You can find anything from Motel 6 up to Four Seasons in the Carlsbad area so it shouldn't be hard to find something in your price range.

Consider whether having a kitchen and not having to eat every meal out, will pay for the difference between a hotel, and a timeshare.

definitely - we will eat out but will probably want to have a kitchen to do some in between meals. what's the average price for renting a TS in this area? I'm looking around end of April to early May this year. Thanks all

I have stayed at MarBrisa, Pacific Palisades, Carlsbad Inn and a couple nearby hotels. I have rented from Expedia, rented from owners here on TUG, and now we own at Carlsbad Inn.

Obviously, I feel Carlsbad Inn is the best choice for my family. We visit Legoland fairly regularly and we have annual passes. But when we go to Carlsbad I don't want to only do Legoland, so we really like Carlsbad Inn because we can walk to many destinations, go to the beach easily, and then drive to Legoland now and then.

From a purely cost perspective if you don't have annual passes and don't plan to go more than one or two days to Legoland then it might make sense to actually stay at the hotel onsite, the Legoland Hotel. It's really cool and themed Lego. Your son will probably really love it. And they have some deals that include park tickets so that can probably save you some money.

But if you need a kitchen or can score a good deal then try Pacific Palisades or MarBrisa.

If you plan to visit the park many days you might want to just get an annual pass - check it out on the Legoland website and do the math. It also gives you some discounts inside the park for stuff you buy there. And the annual pass lets you use the water park too - check the schedule on the Legoland website to see if it is open when you visit.

If you can trade in II then you could always press your luck and try to get the Four Seasons Aviara. No whammies!

For RCI I prefer Marbrisa since you are just a short walk from the private back gate.
