Having paid years of annual fees already, I was getting desperate to get out of our timeshare at Edgewater Beach. Hindsight, yup yup. Anyway- advertising it, trying to give it away, nothing.
BTW, I would still recommend LT Transfers, they have been super answering questions, and their fees are reasonable.
Following up on a suggestion I saw here, I contacted the manager of the resort- finally heard back from him. They will allow me to return it to them, but at a cost. They want two years of annual fees. This would be quite a bit, considering there is now an additional assessment of $1,000 for the next two years. ( float week, annual cost now $1,900!)Still, I would be paying it anyway I guess. For $2,500 I can be legally done with it. My only other option was to transfer my share to my parents ( we co-own) but I am concerned that they would get harassed with collection, even sued.
leaning strong towards paying the fees.

There is/was never a charity. People had to pay to "Donate For Cause" to take the timeshare off their hands. That outfit is now under investigation for its scam operation.

1-2 years maintenance fees is the going rate. A full 2x is the upper end of reasonable, but if it wasn't for the special assessment, it would be much more tolerable.

no I used one to get rid of Westgate (who refused to take it back from me) - despite not owning anything on it. They were great they actually sold it. they had a bid site. they charged me nothing.
