We are thinking of spending a few days in Vegas, and we have a 22 month old and a 4 month old. Would we be able to wander in and out of the hotels in order to have a look around? I seem to remember last time we were there that we often walked through bits of casino in order to get to shops, restaurants and other attractions. Would we be able to do this with our children? Or are there always seperate entrances that allow you to bypass the gambling areas?

You can wander through the casino area with your children to get to your room or to a restaurant;.they are sort of "allotted walkways." The "no children" rule is to prevent your gambling with the children standing around being exposed to gambling and annoying others. There are no separate doors that allow you in without going through casinos.

We were there a few years ago with our kids. If one of the kids even hesitated for a moment while walking through the gambling areas, security quickly appeared at our sides. So, yes -- you can pass through but that's it.

Yep, they've got it right. If you and your husband are walking through, you can't both stop and hit a quick slot machine. One can walk ahead with the stroller and as long as they don't break stride you can stop and hit a slot and run and catch up with them. If you both stop security will be at your side so fast it's unbelievable.

Some of the casinos are VERY smokey, so you want to walk through FAST anyway!

You have to keep moving as has been mentioned. Also, you can't bring a stroller into Wynn unless you are a hotel guest. Used to be that way at Bellagio too, but don't think it is any more.

Personally, unless you have family you are visiting with, I wouldn't bring children that young to Vegas. It really would hinder everybody's enjoyment of their vacation.

Yes, I quite agree with this, but just to explain: its my parents visiting us from abroad. We will be touring Sedona and the Grand Canyon area, but they suggested spending a few days in Vegas as well, just to get the most bang for their buck. None of us are big gamblers, but are really just interested in seeing the hotels and some of the attractions, like the Aquarium at the Mandalay Bay.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

there is plenty to do--the shops at bellagio, cafes at paris

dinner shows, the pirate show at mirage (if they still do it). I think for a few days that you would be fine. The Luxor has an egyptian exhibit, etc. Pick a good hotel with lots of amenties and you will be fine. Also, pick one with a kids club and call and ask if you can bring toddler (hilton would be the best bet)---some places let toddlers play in kids club duirng certain hours if parents are there to supervise--might be worth making a few calls.

We have friends who went to Vegas with young children. They rotated which parents/grandparents stayed in hotel room with the young children, who were about the age of your children. The children got special attention, especially from grandparents, and the adults had time to explore casinos.

actaully--dinner is not too bad, esp. at buffets

the buffets tend to be sort of loud and noisy and, since it is a buffet, people are getting up and walking around all the time---so an OK place for kids---just find one without a long line.

The TI show is still family fare, and is still a 'pirate ship' story, but there are a lot of loud noises that could frighten younger kids. Also, because of the crowds you have to arrive very early for each show and wait a while, which kids don't generally like.

By all means take the kids to see the various lion/tiger exhibits - there are other 'animal' places a swell.
