Wynn reports 548 employee cases

Are timeshare resorts required to have their employees tested and to disclose when they have COVID-19?

The headline kind of buried the lead....it's not just staff. Guests have died in Vegas.
Here's a startling stat, from the article:
"More than 25 percent of people recently infected with COVID-19 in Clark County – home of the Las Vegas Strip – may have contracted or helped spread the contagious illness at a hotel, motel or resort.

That's according to Nevada's COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force, which for the first time Thursday revealed there may be a connection between positive cases and the Las Vegas Strip corridor."

Well, d'uh. Maybe being inside large spaces with strangers, with limited outside air circulation, might not be the safest choice ever.

It'll be interesting to see how the lawsuits play out.

What happen to wearing a mask, washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, and social distance.?

Inside for long periods with poor ventilation, those tactics might not be enough.
Sound liked on a cruise ship in their main dining room serving 1500 guests for two (2) dinner servings.

To date, the company has conducted 42,637 COVID-19 tests at the Venetian and Palazzo properties. A total of 424 team members have tested positive – but 399 of those cases were logged after the resorts opened in June.

Not all of the positive test results were discovered during on-property testing, according to Sands spokesman Ron Reese. Some were identified at off-property testing locations.

Most people who get Covid either do not have symptoms or have mild symptoms. The elderly, obese, and people with other underlying conditions should be more cautious.

I am concerned for my sister-in-law, who has been in the hospital for 7 weeks, not with Covid, but with a bowel obstruction, a supposed "overnight stay" surgery, the accidental "nick" of her intestine, and the consequence of severe infection. Once again, she almost died. She had gastric bypass 4 years ago, and she has been in terrible shape ever since.

She has been on feeding tubes, intravaneous everything to help her live, and an appliance that requires her husband to drain the infection at home. She was home six hours and then returned to the hospital for nausea. Her favorite place to go is Las Vegas. She is considering going as soon as she is back on her feet. What??? No way am I going to remain quiet on that. Not with Covid rampant in Vegas! The hospital has been so careful in limiting people into her room, we haven't been able to see her. Rick's brother is constantly worried, losing weight, Rick sees him a few times a week at his stepmom's house, as they go through things before the estate sale.

The only positive thing about her being hospitalized is she probably lost the weight she gained back after the gastric bypass. She gained 60 pounds from her low weight.

More available testing reveals more people who are asymptomatic. I don't think every one of these people is deathly ill, but I don't want my SIL to go to Vegas with the crowds.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Cindy.

I'm a poker player. Used to go to Vegas frequently for poker. Have entered the World Series of Poker numerous times. I absolutely will not go to Vegas until I've been vaccinated.

My other favorite place is Disneyland. Not going back there, either, until vaccinated.

I'm so sorry that you and Rick are so worried about this. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that there's nothing you can do. She's an adult, and will have to live with her own decisions. I'm hoping that you and Rick can find peace with that.

We’re in Vegas now. We haven’t been out except for this morning and really have no plans to spend time in the casinos. Most people are wearing masks, but some not appropriately, leaving the mask below their nose. We walked to and ate breakfast at Mon Ami Gabe and they were doing a good job of keeping guests socially distanced and had plexiglass between some of the tables where it was questionable about the distancing or circulation. It was outdoor seating only as far as I could tell. No one was being seated indoors. They also weren’t taking the next guests to a table until the previous had been seated.
They’re trying their best, but there will always be stupid people who either don’t take things seriously or are just lax because of their belief it can’t happen to them, or it’s not that bad.
We’ll be hitting the outdoor venues this week, traveling the the outdoor attractions surrounding Vegas rather than spending much time indoors. The times we’ll be indoors are the very early morning hours when the number of guests are at a minimum and distancing is much easier.

Yes, my brother-in-law is a wreck. Our nephew is so worried about him. Fortunately for my dear BIL, he was able to quit his job at WalMart because my mother-in-law had enough money between her savings and home value (worth about $450K), that his 1/3 of the money will be enough for them to pay bills and live on their SS. Dear BIL is 70. He shouldn't be working.

This is another worry about Vegas. They love Vegas, my SIL says they ALWAYS win at the slots. No way. Refinancing their house 3 years ago tells me that they do not always win. They need to stay away from that place. I am not offering a timeshare to them.

My favorite places are Disney World, Disneyland and Maui, in that order. I love Disney. We have "reservations" to use our DW AP's for 3 days mid-October. We will see how that goes at DW. I do not want to get or spread Covid. Had it once, once was enough, mild case. I always get a cold at DW. Always. I will wear a mask, and I will have a pint of hand sanitizer in my backpack. I am ready.

Disneyland may never open. Have you heard anything? Our AP's were supposed to expire mid-September, but now they are good until mid-March. We will see how long it takes for them to open. My granddaughter is so excited to go again.

How often do people go to a hospital for weeks and weeks at a time. It's far more serious than I can even comprehend. No one I know stays in a hospital that long. It's worrisome. I am so concerned that she will die of this infection, and their house is kind of a disaster, according to our niece, so resting there might not be all that great.

I had my hip replaced and was out of the hospital after the second night. I was supposed to stay a 3rd night and had to prove that I could walk down a flight of stairs to get permission from the surgeon to go home. It was so painful, I told Rick there was no way I was going upstairs to bed for a few days after arriving home.

Cannot imagine going to a large casino in Las Vegas with people from all over the world. Monday our local casinos open but just local people go that have nothing better to do or addicted. I still would not go to the one here. People are just asking to get sick and or spread it to others. What percent of people that feel safe going to those big casinos actually wear their mask correctly?

We have been into a couple of the Seminole Hard Rock Casinos here in Florida. We don't gamble, but we put a few dollars into the slots in Tampa and netted $14 proffit. We went to go to the Cafe for a Bogo Birthday offer. Anyway, the main issue I have is that they still allow smoking. You are to wear a mask unless drinking or smoking. Well they are still serving drinks too. People basically smoke and drink non stop as a means to not have to wear a mask. Realize that when you are smelling cigarette smoke, you are basically breathing in someone else's exhaled air. The place reeked of cigarette smoke. Though I am sure it always does. As part of their Safe + Sound program, they are checking the temperature of everyone coming in, not sure if that is enough. Time to stop the smoking, but then the big gamblers probably won't come.

We walked thru the miracle mills shops at planet Hollywood to get back to our unit. There were a several people not wearing masks and not social distancing. There were enough of them I had difficulty keeping my distance. I move away from one and run into another.
I usually don’t like walking back thru the garage because there are drivers that believe it’s a race track. I think for the rest of our time here, I’ll take my chances with bad drivers vs careless people.
Ordinarily we’re in Vegas for our anniversary every year. I’m not anticipating they’ll have this under control by next year. We may have to rethink our plans for 2021. Maybe stay at our home resort at LV Blvd or choose some other destination

The head of infectious diseases at the big, local teaching hospital system here (think a local Dr. Fauci) basically believes that temp checks are a kind of public health theater. The direct quote, upon being asked of their usefulness, was "Well, I suppose they may have some.....mental health benefits." With 25% of cases being asymptomatic, not having a fever really doesn't tell anyone anything.

How can you really social distance in a casino playing slots. Poker, playing 21, dices, or any gaming game?

Easy. Just space the slot machines further apart. For the card games, some casinos have limited the number of people at the tables to less than 50%, plus added plexiglass dividers. Of course, everyone is also wearing a mask. Were you really serious about this question? I ask because it seems like a pretty simple solution, and basically the same as what they do at grocery stores, Walmart, etc. -- just space people out more and add barriers where you can't.

I have never been to a casino in Vegas that was not crowded especially after 8 PM.

They have plexiglass portions between gamblers and selecting the dealers from the gamblers. It’s a little surreal

What gets me is NO ONE ever mentions the false positive rate. Earlier, some tests (Becton Dickonson, for example) had about a 3% false positive rate. @WVBaker posted "42,637 COVID-19 tests at the Venetian and Palazzo properties. A total of 424 team members have tested positive – but 399 of those cases were logged after the resorts opened in June". This is why I really would like SOMEONE to state the false positive rate. It it is 0.01%, then the 424 positive team members is an issue. But if it is 1%, then there is little to no real underlying issue.

Actually, trying to "drill down" and find accuracy rates is difficult to impossible. It seems like no one want to publish the false positive or the false negative rates.

So limit the number of people in the casino, just like they do for many stores, public spaces, etc. Again, some very simple solutions to this issue. Now whether they choose to implement these solutions is another topic, but the answer to your initial question of "How can you really social distance in a casino..." is quite simple.
