A lot's changed in 25 years.

Monte Carlo is a very nice place to stay. We enjoy MC very much and they have some of the most comfortable beds in Vegas.

In the area you're in, I enjoy visiting NYNY. Breakfast on the patio overlooking the central park themed casino at Fornio's is always good.

The conservatory at Bellagio is always worth a visit and at the same time, you can walk over to Ceasers Palace for a walk through the Forum shops. While in the Forum shops we like to grab lunch at the Cheesecake factory. They also have indoor patio dining where you can people watch while enjoying lunch.

The Grand Canal shops in the Venetian are very interesting. For that matter, the entire hotel/casino of the Venitian is interesting. Very nice reconstruction of some of the main attractions in Venice.

We enjoy walking through the Desert Paradise mall at the Aladin (soon to become Planet Hollywood) and it's pretty much right across the street from the Monte Carlo. Afterwards you could walk a little north to see the Paris hotel/casino.

If you don't mind the big ticket price, Cirque du Soliel has four shows in Vegas. Again, almost directly across the street from the Monte Carlo is the MGM grand. They have one of the 4 Cirque shows, Ka, there. NYNY has the Cirque show Zumanity, which is supposed to have a more "adult" theme to it.

Ken-I'm not sure if you can access the threads but there has been a lot of Las Vegas talk. What to see, where to eat. You name it. My guess is you'll save enough from TUG threads to pay for a membership. Besides, you may even find out something about timesharing you never knew. Actually, that can be bad, so forget that I mentioned that. :)

Ken,
If you or your wife like art, there are several interesting galleries in the Aladdin's Mall. In fact, I find the whole place more interesting and affordable than the one at Caesars. Caesar's is more upscale...it has interesting things like the moving statues, but not much I'd spend money on.

Anyway, there is an inexpensive restaurant in there called Max, which is great for lunch. They have $3.95 and $5.95 specials for lunch, and they are really good, believe it or not. And Aladdin is my favorite superbuffet.

Harrah's new buffet will be open by then, and sounds interesting. Among other things it will have a Brazilian BBQ station. Also, Clint Holmes performs there in the evenings (a favorite, personality-driven, very versitile singer). If you plan to do an afternoon show, Mac King's magic is here.

Society of Seven performs many afternoons at MGM. They aren't cheap, but mid-priced. They are very dynamic performers. There's a Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill in MGM that I like, and also Emeril's Fish House (haven't eaten in there in years, though).

As mentioned above, Bellagio's Conservatory with the flower sculptures is well worth your time.

There is a Titanic Exhibit at the Tropicana that is really interesting. You can do the whole thing in about an hour, and its worth your time.

I am guessing you'll be on foot a lot. Make sure you have a good jacket, and a scarf and hat...if it is windy you may want the scarf for your face. One night, go to the bridge between NYNY and MGM and take in the Strip's lights. Or go to the top of the Stratosphere. Or take the monorail at night for the lights.

If you have the time, go downtown one night. Ride "The Deuce," going on the upper level so you can see the lights of the strip. Then go all the way down to the Fremont Street Experience (a sound and light show, there's a different one each hour after dark).

If you are wanting to save money during the day, there is a Chipolte Grill Mexican food ("fresh Mex) right on The Strip just north of Harrah's, and lunch there would be reasonable.

Hope all this helps.

Fern

Its a slow time of year, so unless you want to go to Celine or someone like that it shouldn't be too hard to get show tickets.

I'd probably take a taxi cause it is quicker, but there are shuttles as well. If you do take a taxi, be sure to tell him "you don't want to go thru the tunnel," or it will cost you $5-7. more.

Another neat place to see the lights is go to the Rio and go up to the Voodoo Lounge , there is a patio outside that has a great view. Also Masquerade in the Sky is fun and they have a free show. Just seeing all the casinos is fun. Don't forget to see the Volcano at the Mirage ( abeautiful place) and go across the street to see the Venetian. Have fun. shaggy
