The plane won’t get lighter when you “burn off” fuel.

Fascinating. I wonder how many batteries they pack in (weight), and how far it can go.

One solution would be a hydrogen fuel cell. That would provide more energy per weight, would allow them to "refuel" quickly, and yes buzglyd, would get lighter as they burned off fuel. Just a thought.
