A large wild fire erupted tonight around 6pm PST in the Montecito area, approximately 5 miles south of Santa Barbara as off shore winds gust up to 70 mph.
Known as the Tea Garden fire, it is estimated between 50 - 100 homes have gone up in flames already and fire fighters from neighboring Ventura, Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo are arriving into the area as they attempt to get a hand on a run away situation tonight.
Spot fires are reported on the campus of nearby Westmont College, which students having been evacuated in a stay in place, fire proof gym on campus. Winds are reportedly dying down tonight but are stronger up higher in the hills. More winds and high temperatures are expected for the next couple days.
