Booked flights with direct air - great price but the only thing is that our flight arrives only 1/2 hr before car rental offsite closes. Hertz at the airport is so expensive almost 1/2 less offsite. Has anybody else had this issue. Looking at renting at the airport with Hertz but only for a week then second week through budget in venice which is cheaper. Just looking for any ideas???

Call the rental car company you want to use and explain the situation. Sometimes when flights are coming in late they stay open a little longer.

I am flying into Lakeland over Christmas and ran into the same problem. Hertz is outrageously priced. After alot of internet searching found U-Save Car and Truck rental at the terminal and it is open until 10:00 pm. The prices are great and they will give you an additional 'direct air' discount. Got a car over Christmas week for $220. Dawn

i was trying u save but we are not returning the car to lakeland but to punta gorda airport. Hertz is so expensive but i think i have no choice to rent from them at the airport but i will rent only 1 week and change to budget in venice for the rest of the time (they are about $100 cheaper for the week) The problem is that most car rental places close either at 12:00 or 2:00 on sat and no even open on sunday.....causes lots of problems.

We are flying into Lakeland in March and booked with Hertz. The outlet at the airport will readjust its hours of operation based on flight arrivals and departures. They told me so when I called them.

Yes, Hertz was more expensive than Budget. I called Budget and they won't offer pick-up service at the airport. They told me that they were a $20 cab ride from the Lakeland airport.

That said, while I have a secured reservation with Hertz, I will keep my eye on hotwire, priceline, etc and move should the prices go down.

I will probably be booking with Hertz...all other car rentals are closed so i can't look for something cheaper on hotwire/priceline. Next time i will probably just adjust my trip so that i arrive in punta gorda so that i don't have this problem. I was quoted for car from Hertz Nov 12 - Nov 28 $677!! way more than my tickets so looking into using airmiles/other reward programs.
