Anything special going on at Lake Tahoe in May, 24th /31st ? We will be there at this time with friends who are first time visitors. Would like to see a really good show at one of the Casino's or go to something special that might be going on in the area. Any suggestions?

It's early to get information for next year events in Lake Tahoe. About two months before you're going, google "Lake Tahoe May events," and "Lake Tahoe casino entertainment", and you'll get some information.

Lake Tahoe events in Late May

I'm a long-time Tahoe resident, so maybe I can help give some insight on what late Spring is like here.

The benefit of late Spring vacationing at Lake Tahoe is you have the lake to yourself, and it is truly the local's favorite time of year. It can be warm, depending on Mother Nature, and it's beautiful, calm, and the traffic and crowds are relatively light.

You can rent a boat and spend an afternoon in Emerald Bay, or one of the smaller, more intimate coves on the lake, and maybe even bring a picnic lunch. Or you can ride the MS Dixie or Tahoe Queen, which are very nice sternwheeler tour boats that go into Emerald Bay every day. They have restaurants on board, too.

There are shows in the south and north shore casino districts, and of course gaming. There are great places to shop and dine around the lake.

There typically isn't a lot going on event-wise at Tahoe during that week. In years past, Memorial Day weekend used to be the Summer kick-off weekend with a lot of activities, but the weather is often not Summer-like quite yet at that time of year.

In light of the weather conditions in late May, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority officially changed the Summer kick-off to an annual event called 'Opening Days Lake Tahoe', which has been happening on the 2nd or
3rd week of June. It's a huge event, with live bands, crafts fairs, the 'Great Sternwheeler Race' between the MS Dixie and Tahoe Queen, and more.

I think you'll have a wonderful time if you come to Tahoe in late May.
