Is it worth making an exchange to one of the RCI resorts at Lake of the Ozarks? Thinking of mid-May but not sure what there is to do other than fishing (for DH) and perhaps golf for the both of us. Are there any historical sites or state parks with hiking nearby? What resorts would be good options? TIA!

My family use to vacation at Lake of the Ozarks every summer in the 70’s, but it was a family vacation and we didn’t really do anything that didn’t revolve around the lake. Either swimming, fishing or boating. These days boating is probably not a good idea unless you keep to the coves. Even in the ‘70’s the main channel was rough.

There is hiking in the area. There are the ruins of an old burned out mansion called Ha Ha Tonka. There are some caves in the area that offer tours. May is early season, or at least it use to be. The Lake’s busiest times use to be June, July and August. May can be on the rainy side so keep that in mind

There is a state park with a cave tour we did while we were there, Ozark Caverns, it was an enjoyable couple hours.

We rented a boat one day and spent a day on the water. There are cliffs you can jump off of in several places that was really fun for our kids (and the kids at heart)

On our way to Lake of the Ozarks we stopped and visited the Gateway Arch and Grant NHS in St. Louis, plus did a canoe trip on the Ozark National Scenic Riverway.

We also stopped and visited the Missouri State Capitol on our way home as well.

So there are some things around even if not directly at Lake of the Ozarks.

Overall we had a very enjoyable week at Lake of the Ozarks.

We always visited Bridal Cave and a really nice state park Ha Ha Tonka , golfed, boated. We owned there for 20 years.
My reviews under Lakewood condominiums are old, but they did mention places we visited. We also made stops on the way there in the St. Louis area

We stayed at the Wyndham/Worldmark Lake of the Ozarks several years ago. Loved it! I grew up visiting the lake, and even honeymooned at Lakewood that rapmarks mentioned. My folks owned 2 floating "blue" weeks there, which is how I came to learn about what NOT to buy when timesharing. :) Though I also learned how to use those weeks to get my folks great trades! I agree that Ha Ha Tonka is fun. Lake of the Ozarks State Park is also a nice one. Many things to do within a day trip's drive. Or just sit and look at the lake. I wish I lived closer...would go back in a heartbeat.

So glad you remembered the names of those parks. I guess the people that held on to the Lakewood weeks until the end made a bundle of money.
