I've done that. It's a nice ferry. Takes about 2.5 hrs across. There's a snack bar onboard, where you can get a hot sandwich, chips, etc. Much better than driving all the way around the lake.

You need a plan B though, as they will cancel if the water is too rough. I've been on it maybe 6 times, and only had them cancel once. It all depends on the weather.

We took the Badger (Ludington, MI, to Manitowoc, WI) this past July for son's wedding. Friends took Lake Express. The Lake Express is faster and the Badger is slower (4 hr trip). Badger takes the waves better since it is much heavier than Lake Express. Lake Express is more expensive than the coal-powered Badger. Both ferries have snack bars, TV rooms, game rooms. Both are enjoyable trips and so much better than fighting the Chicago traffic!

Opening day is May 1st, 2009

Cross Lake Michigan in just 2 1/2 hours

Lake Express is back at it's terminal on the western shore of Lake Michigan just south of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The ship
and crew made the trip the morning of April 9th.

The first day of sailings is coming fast. The sixth season of Lake Express high speed ferry service begins with a 6:00 AM departure from Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday, May 1, 2009.

Is it worth the extra money to upgrade from
Classic Cabin Seating to Premier Cabin Seating?
