I canceled my original reservation in mid May to MOC with the belief my flights were canceled. When I checked the website, our flight was not listed. Contacting Hawaiian, they said my flight was still operating and they wouldn't cancel my flight. So, I guess I need a reservation again. What showed available was a one bedroom in the Lahaina or Napili Tower, it said one bedroom, master bedroom portion. Can anyone explain what this is exactly? I was a little panicked due to finding out Hawaiian wouldn't cancel our reservation, so I booked what was available, and now I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake. Your input is appreciated.

It's the 1BR portion of a 2BR lockout. It has a master bedroom with a king bed, a living room, and a full kitchen, including washer/dryer.

Just be advised that Hawaii has instituted a mandatory 14 day quarantine for all arrivals through at least May 20 and it will most likely be extended. You will not be allowed to leave your room, not allowed in grocery stores, etc.

I think the 14-day quarantine would make a mid-May trip quite uncomfortable. Who wants to spend the whole time in your timeshare, even as nice as MOC is? As Sandy VDH posted in the Hawaii TUG Forum, a couple was arrested for stopping at Foodland in Princeville after their arrival on the island. They were taken to a cell block and booked, before posting bail. The fine for breaking quarantine is up to $5,000 and/or a year in prison.

You may need to just cancel the flight and eat the fees and find a way to use the credit. I feel the pain, we may be in the same situation with flights to the UK for August for a cruise that we have cancelled.

I wouldn't try to plan a trip to Hawaii mid-May. The quarantine will still be in effect, there is no end date stated, and they are serious about it.

csodjd also saw a flight missing on the Hawaiian schedule but was told it was still in effect. Your flight is extremely likely to be cancelled by Hawaiian.

Then end date in the order is May 20. I'm hoping it doesn't get extended.

Just curious where you saw an end date. The only information I've seen is that the order will be in place until further notice.

Depending on when the OP is scheduled to arrive they could be caught in the quarantine.

I only remember seeing the quarantine through 4-30-20. I heard on the radio today that they are considering any extensions to be two weeks at a time and not a month.

I think the 4/30/2020 date was for stay at home. There was no end date for the 14 day quarantine. I'm going to see if I can find the article I saw, or the executive order, that stated this.

Posted March 23: Gov. David Ige signed a third supplementary proclamation Monday, ordering the entire state to stay at home and work from home starting at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 25 through Apr. 30. Essential workers are exempt.

Posted March 25 in Hawaii News Now: The quarantine rule is in effect indefinitely and anyone who breaks the mandate can face a $5,000 fine and up to a year in jail. The stay-at-home order, meanwhile, extends through April 30.

That's right. It's a cat and mouse game. No way they're flying LAX - OGG non-stop with nobody on the plane. But they want us to cancel before they do so they don't have to refund. Wait. I'd be shocked if they don't cancel the flight about 48 hours before it is scheduled. When Hawaiian (on Chat) told me the flight wasn't canceled, they just were not taking any more bookings for the flight, I knew they were full of it.

Here is the proclamation for the quarantine.

The May 20 date is at the end, and refers to the disaster relief period. So sounds like the quarantine is effective as long as the disaster proclamation is in effect, which is through May 20 as of now, unless extended.

And in the fourth supplementary proclamation it looks like the date for disaster relief was changed to April, 30, 2020. That was issued on March 31, 2020. The newspaper is where I saw the statement that the quarantine had no end date.

I was told the reason I couldn't see my flight in the schedule anymore was because it is full. I know that's not true, since the only two flights now scheduled are LAX-HNL. I hate being lied to by a company we've been loyal to since we first started going to Hawaii in the 1980s. Yes, I do believe they are hoping we cancel and eat the fees. Our flight was $3600, so that is a chunk of change I'm not willing to give up. It's very poor customer service and I'm very mad at the stupid game they're playing.

So a late update. We canceled our flight, and got only credit for this year. They wouldn't refund our money because they rebooked us on an LAX-HNL-OGG flight...a sneaky way to keep our money because those flights weren't canceled. I rebooked yesterday and prices were very inflated-- a $900-2300 difference in fare. I had to book via chat as there wasn't the ability to do it myself online. They tried to book us for a flight that was $2000 more EACH, but after two more tries I told her what price I was seeing online and to please book those flights. It ended up $900 more.

I wasn't able to get the Lahaina/Napili ocean front, but did get ocean view. Should I bother watching for ocean front (for mid May)? I'm using points BTW.

If anyone has recommendations as far as placing requests for specific locations (Lahaina vs Napili, specific room numbers or ranges) I'd appreciate hearing them. We own here but have never stayed as we also own another Hawaii timeshare ocean front. We gave that to our son for his honeymoon this year.

Only Lahaina tower has Ocean View.

if you can get a high floor on the interior/garden side or any of the corner units on the Hyatt side you should be fine with great OV views.

Both Lahaina and Napili have OF so while there are more units, there may be limited DC point availability as many(all?) were sold as legacy weeks.

The two charts on the right in this graphic show were room views are.

if I remember correctly the Hyatt side OV may be ADA rooms and/or non-lock-off. You can call and ask for room control for more info.

As I recall, if you’re a legacy week 2-br ocean front owner you’ll be in the Lahaina tower I believe.

Thank you! That's incredibly helpful. Yes, I realize that most of the ocean front were legacy weeks, but I would guess that many of those have taken the option to trade their ownership for points for the flexibility, or, like us, just elected points for the next year or so due to Covid and the uncertainties regarding flying from the mainland.

I have chosen not to convert my legacy week to DC points because, quite simply, Maui is the only place we intend to go. The "flexibility" the points gave us, being able to check in on a different day or stay for less than a week, didn't come close to justifying the substantial cost.

I kept my legacy week, I just put last year and this year in the points program for temporary added flexibility

Just returned from Maui and had multiple family members flying in so multiple tests in different geographic locations.

Here are my Lessons Learned/Take Away’s :
Walgreens
- their drive through worked well although you need to watch the online calendar as they only open test appointments 3-4 days out. We found that if there are multiple people you can go in one vehicle which allows you to knock out 2-3 family members test at one time. Insurance is reimbursing so for many people it will be at no charge. Took between 18-22 hours and 2 days for tests results. Make sure you also loan the Walgreens app as test results appeared faster there. Print out hard copy as the Wi-Fi in the airport gets slow.

Costco/Azova- tests were purchased online you want the one with video verification because it’s the only one Hawaii accepts, current cost is $139. This is a slightly different tests as its Saliva in a tube vs Swab up the nose, but both methods are accepted by Hawaii provided you use one of their approved vendors. Our East Coast family member got great turnaround of less than 28 hours, but that maybe because Lab was in Savanah. The Colorado tests were delayed by ice storm in Louisville and UPS delays. Strongly suggest if you go with this one to drive it to the main UPS sort location to give you a better chance of no sorting delays. Also, UPS in many locations doesn't deliver on Sundays so factor this into your planning. Also, at the time we registered they weren't doing COVID-19 tests for anyone under 18. This may have changed.

American Airlines/Let’s Get Checked- we purchased their online tests through Let’s Get Checked. They know as part of your test registration that you are flying on American, and the date and time of your flight. It appeared tests results were given priority to those whose flights were rapidly approaching. We got their results in under 48 hours. We also had one member do the rapid test at the DFW Airport, Terminal D, which is limited to those flying to Hawaii. It is the most expensive option but start to finish it took 22 minutes and walked out with printed negative test results and walked 2 gates away to board the plane.

Other Steps to Take in Advance:
1. You need to Register with State of Hawaii- Safe Travels and load their app onto your smartphone. The airport process is expedited if you have pre-loaded the app and QR code onto your phone. The state approval once granted in the airport shows you have been passed , do not need to quarantine, and is how you will be able to show the hotel and rental car that you have been cleared.

2. Another great resource is aloha@hawaii-guide.com, as there are answers to many questions, its frequently updated and it addresses the constantly changing rules.

3. Once the flight arrives those seated forward, Business Class and Premium Economy got queued up first and they cleared a good 30-45 minutes before those in the back of the plane. So, if possible, a seat towards the front of the plane may aid how long you are in line.

4. Remember to have some battery left on your cell phone and to take it off airplane mode so you can access the airport Wi-Fi to pull up the state of Hawaii site when you get to the counter where your documents are reviewed.

5. Also keep your mask on as you deplane and all the time in the airport

Restaurants
Yes there are limits, less are open and capacity is capped, more outdoor seating but many are opening far earlier and offering all day dining. We enjoyed several great meals at Honu and the food was as terrific as always. Staff went out of their way to provide outstanding service and to thank us for supporting them.

Yes, it’s a different process and a bit of a hassle but it was still great to be in 80-degree weather, with blue skies and whales visible. After a tough year I would gladly do all this again for the time we had in Hawaii.
Hope this information helps, as many other Tuggers have helped us over the years!
Enjoy and Aloha
