It looks great, but please consider paying someone to do it for you. Unfortunately I know more than a couple of people that have had serious injuries hanging lights, cleaning gutters, etc., and they were all quite a bit younger than you. Leave that work to the "young and dumb", I say. ;)

12 years ago, when our home was new, I found a way to put 1.5" galvanized roofing nails into the wood at the top edge of our home. The peaks are at about 28'. I then used a long pool pole with a makeshift hook at the end to put up and take down the lights each year. No more ladders!

All the things you pay other peeps to do things for you and you're still climbing extension ladders??

I agree with Brian. Now I understand why some people leave their lights strung throughout the year, and only have to flip a switch to activate them for the holidays.

Pretty, although not enough to justify the risk. Sorry.

I know numerous people that had serious accidents from ladder falls. A dear friend nearly lost his leg, and potentially his life from the dual compound fractures he suffered. And, he's a very handy guy, a tradesman.

I should know better. I fell off a ladder (trimming trees from around a power line) 10 years ago and crushed my heel. It was repaired with a metal strap and 8 screws. What it did was emphasize the importance of the "3 point rule"
(2 feet and one hand or two hands and one foot on the ladder at all times. And dont reach...climb down and move the ladder.

What it didnt do is scare me off doing my own work... Its not to save the money, its an ego thing, I want to stand back and say... "I did that"

Today Im working on the palm trees and bushes. Step ladder only. and if I can find a supply of 12 volt lights Ill do my boat

if you use all LED lighting, a small power inverter will work just fine for boat lights!

My husband bought the little giant ladder a couple years ago. We both feel much better about him going up on the roof now.

It's a LOT more gratifying to stand back and say, "I didn't do that."

Especially when said from outside of an ER, and not wearing any medical fixation devices. ;)

At 66 and on the heart transplant list for five years now, it gives me great pleasure to know I can still haul the ladder around and get all this up. Wished I could do the second and third gable but I'm just not that adventurous anymore. I start checking everything out on Nov 1 every year and progress from there with the official lighting Thanksgiving night. Happy Holidays everybody.

Love looking at Christmas lights at night. We have a few but nothing compared to Ron and Bucky.

When I set up my 40 extension ladder, it is NOT for decorative lighting.

Really sad this is the last year for the Sullivan Lights at Hollywood Studios ... now that was impressive when I saw that display several years ago.

Still, looks nice looking for Ron's and Bucky's efforts.
