We just came back from our annual Southern Maine seacoast weekend. Love that seafood! Had a wonderful time walking around coastal towns and eating all the seafood we could from Kittery to Yarmouth ME. Bread N Roses Bakery in Ogunquit is a must annual ritual for us as is the Lindt outlet store in Kittery.
I highly recommend the suite style Marriott Residence Inn in Scarborough-clean with a nice hot breakfast included and near the Maine Mall ,major highways and 5-7 miles from Old Port in Portland and plenty of choices on where to eat.
Before we went I read about this annual clam festival in the town of Yarmouth and since we were staying in Portland area it was only 20 miles away. It isthird weekend of July each year.
I just wanted to say that I am so impressed by the the people who live in Yarmouth. What a great way to help raise funds in a fun way.
It seems that for over 40 years the town has held a festival and from the parking lots to the food the money raised supports many causes local and global. Parking varies from $5-$8 and will help the Boosters Club or the Football team etc. You can get a shore lobster dinner, fried clams, clam cakes, sno cones, chowder ,fish to burgers and blueberry crisp. All home made and of course we just ate until we couldn't eat any more. There are bike races,a parade, a horse drawn wagon ride, duck mobile tour and a section with carnival rides. There is a local artisian craft area and entertainment. You can pay $1.00 on the last day and fill a bags with books or 1/2 price for goods at the Church yard sale.
I even saw a little boy selling lemonade with fliers to raise money for children in the 3rd world.
Bravo to you Yarmouth ME! Well done.

I was also lucky enough to read in Coastal Living Magazine tours for the Idea Home of the Year in West Scarborough Maine. It is called Beach Walk at Pine Point on Claudia Way not far from Old Orchard Beach. The $6 entry fee goes to Safe Passage. It just started this past weekend and runs until Labor Day and is worth the tour plus helps a good cause. It is right on the water and maybe 5 miles or less from Old Orchard Beach and 7 miles from the hotels in South Portland near the Maine Mall. The home is 3400 sq ft and is priced at $1.4 million. Complete with beach color motif and very casual decor.
