Kobe Bryant has passed away in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California along with four (4) others.

My thoughts goes out to his spouse, his four (4) daughters and his parents.

R.I.P. #24 and #8. He wore both numbers during his Lakers career.

Cliff just came out and said "turn on the TV". Since we are local, it seems to be on many stations.

So young. What a terrible tragedy for his family.

Interesting to see today’s college athletes react to this. Kobe was the GOAT to many of them. Damn shame he is gone so young. Feel awful for his family.

So sad! So sad for his family. And to loose a young child as well. Very Sad day indeed

Please, let us know the relationships of the other four (4) in the crash.

His 13 year old daughter, her teammate and the parent of the team mate and the pilot.

There has been some fear his second oldest daughter was with him. He seemed to have been on the way to a girls' basketball training session that he supported, and she played with them. They have fans converging on the Staples Center to pay tribute to him, and the Grammys are there tonight so lots of logistics issues. Cars lined up on roads leading to the wreckage site as fans try to pay respects there.

That was the rumor on the East Coast. I was praying it was not true.

It’s just awful. :(

I didn't know that it could be worse. This is just so sad!

R.I.P. to the Legend. I have been watching YouTube video tributes for the past hour. A tragic loss for our country and the world of sports.

Oh, my goodness! I just read this on a news alert on my phone. So sad.

9 people reported on helicopter....so very sad

OMG! So sad.

The teamates father is the baseball coach at Orange Coast College John Altobelli. I live right across the street from the baseball field, I watch many of their games, have seen him there. Tragic loss.

I’m from LA as @SNA27. It’s hard because I actually watched him grow up. Besides one mistake, he was a great man.

Mistake? I guess that was before the #metoo era!:(

I just learned today from my high school WhatsApp group that two of my classmates had passed away within the last year! That had a greater effect on me!

It's so sad. It's the absolute shock of it. So young! Even Bill Russell is still around to offer condolences.

"Bryant admitted a sexual encounter with the woman, but denied that he had committed sexual assault. When the allegation became public, Bryant lost sponsors and faced criminal charges, which were eventually dropped.

Bryant issued an apology to his accuser, with whom he also reached a settlement in a civil lawsuit.

“Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter,” Bryant said in his 2004 apology."

So, yeah, it went to his head, but he recovered. He straightened himself out and saved his marriage.

Please keep in mind that ~151,600 people died today. I am willing to bet hundreds or even thousands were missed more and more worthy of lamentation. We just didn't know about them. A sobering thought.
