So apparently starting 8/1 there is a new layout for the lounge cabanas and lounger/umbrellas. From the looks of it, rentals will cover nearly the whole beach. Not sure if it is just an intentional misrepresentation making it look like the whole cove is rentals, but if there are no free loungers on the sand people need to rise up and revolt.

I guess we won't know for a few weeks.

If so maybe someone can stop by Costco to get a couple of the Tommy Bahama loungers and stash them in the garage for the next guest to use.

You mean lounge chairs? Either way that would not replace the dozens of full blown pool lounges on the sand they had for free.

If there are no free loungers anymore on the beach I think we should start a time sharing system and rent out the loungers in 15 minute increments. I will put you in charge of the sales center. I will hire Dioxide45 to make YouTube videos to publicize our scheme.

Changing to only paid loungers and cabana's would be disappointing if that happens. We has short stay at Ko Olina last sept, during our stay their was not many people using the lagoon, and only a few of the loungers were in use. I assume they must get busier other times, otherwise I don't see how they could hope to rent all of those out..

The cabanas were not free.

Personally, I have always found the umbrella and beach chair situation at Ko’Olina a bit odd. The layout has changed a couple times, no personal umbrellas (only paid), several different chairs (some free, some pay), paid loungers/cabanas, etc. Maybe just me, but feels odd and more complicated rules than necessary.

Of note. This week they were discounting them from 20-50% off for owners, depending on which you selected.

And all are much cheaper than Maui!

We were there in March and I found the prices for umbrellas and cabanas a big turn off to return to the resort. The hassle of going all the way to Hawaii and then to be gouged for a spot of shade was irritating. It made me appreciate the ease of getting to Ocean Pointe and Grande Ocean. Most of the time we drive and take our own umbrella and chairs but even when we fly and rent from beach vendors the prices aren't so prohibitive.

Here is the link to reserve at Ko’Olina. Prices range from $100 to $350 per day. https://resortops.rezgo.com/

Attached is the latest Maui Ocean Club prices for comparison. Prices from $110 to $350 per day.

So, I guess both are close in price….and both still pricey. At Maui, owners get a 10% discount. At Ko’Olina, appears 10% or more (if your tour).

Just found this:

Ko Olina Lagoons: This is a major exception. The man-made lagoons at Ko Olina (where resorts like Aulani are located) are private property. They strictly prohibit personal sun shades, tents, and umbrellas on the sand (only hotel-provided umbrellas are allowed).

If they try to charge me I'm going to tell them to just charge it to the Underhill's room.....

This is correct. I think Ko Olina Lagoons also has strict restrictions on photography also.

I wonder if any money, and, how much, is being kicked back to MVW, or to an agent of MVW that MVW may or may not know about.
