Key West's annual Fantasy Fest cancelled
By Tom Stieghorst / USA / Travel Weekly / www.travelweekly.com / Jul 10, 2020
“Covid-19 has claimed another victim: the most popular annual tourist event in Key West.
Organizers of the Fantasy Fest parade and celebration scheduled for Oct. 22 to 31 said that the most responsible thing to do was cancel the 2020 extravaganza.
"For the first time in 41 years we will be unable to welcome our beloved Fantasy Fest merrymakers, glitter goddesses, leather clad lads, and costumed cohorts to our zany island for the most epic ten days of the year," organizers said on the event website.
Described as a "10-day party in paradise for grown-ups," Fantasy Fest is a cross between Halloween and Mardi Gras with a tropical island flavor.
First held in 1979, the annual fall event brings about $30 million in revenue to the city.”
