Wow! Last year I purchased a new Keurig coffee maker on eBay and I recently had a problem with it. It was clogged and it showed the message Descale on the window. I went through the cleaning process with the white vinegar and then afterwards it just kept dripping the water and then shutting off after about 30 seconds.

After just talking to customer service on the phone for about 5 minutes, they're going to ship me a new one. No shipping fees, no extra charges, and I didn't even have to provide a credit card number. I mentioned that I've owned the unit for over a year and I never even submitted the warranty card when I originally got it.

Anyway, that's real customer service that I didn't expect! :)

Nice! I really like my Keurig. It's my "other" coffee maker at my home, used for those times when I just need a cup of something, and not a whole pot. I like the convenience it brings, and that it lets me give guests the cup of whatever they want, instead of the pot that I brewed up. Good ideas are worth waiting for. :)

Just thinking out loud here. I wonder if Keurig isn't following the old Gillette business model- flood the market with free razors so people would have to buy their proprietary blades. I see Keurig refurbs all over- online and even in retail stores. Makes one wonder if the real profit isn't in the pods, not the machine itself.

Not questioning the quality of the coffee or the customer service. In fact it's refreshing to see a company that seems to stand behind their products.

The business model worked for Gillette, so why not Keurig?

You're probably on to something. Same idea with color inkjet printers. They're virtually free these days, but the ink cartridges are really expensive...

Good point. I'd kinda like to have one to use like you do- just for that occasional cuppa when I drink myself out of the daily pot- or if I want something 'special' without parting with $5 at the neighborhood coffee shop. I just can't see devoting the counter space to one- and then there's that inner tightwad that tells me I can make a whole pot of my Costco organic for about what Keurig gets for a pod or 2.

<sigh> I balk at the cost of brand name printer carts too.

Last year my roughly 1 1/2 year old keurig stopped working. Out of warranty!

I went to Bed Bath & Beyond to look for a new one. An employee in the keurig section asked if I needed help - I told her what happened. She said to bring in the coffee maker. I had no receipt handy (Though I did buy the original at BB&B). They looked at the bottom of the machine and said just take a new one. I took a new Platinum (same as my old one). They removed the sample box of coffees and said "have a nice day." Must be that Keurig directs the retailers to replace machines that break as well. Outstanding customer service.

Bed Bath and Beyond did a simlar thing for an electric pressure cooker that I bought from them.

B B & B has great acustomer service. Our Keurig quit a few months after purchase (would not pump water from the reservoir) and B B & B replaced it on the spot. There have been a number of problems with the units if you look online but the company really stands behind the product.

Well considering that Keurig is owned by Green Mountain Coffee, I believe you are spot on. :)

We had issues with the Cuisinart version of the k machine. We purchased from Costco on line and it worked fine for three months. Took it back to the local store and they issued a refund on the spot also, and immediately bought a replacement. Some companies know how to retain a customer. Unfortunately many do not.

Mine had problems and I called Keurig. Was only a few months old and I had made a comment to the woman on the phone that I didn't know how I was going to make it until the replacement part arrived. She asked where I bought it and I told her it was a gift but that my folks had bought it at Kohls. She told me I could bring it back there and they would exchange it. When I went to the store they looked a the code on the bottom and knew they had sold it. Apparently there is something in the serial # that shows where it was purchased.

I think it's great Keurig is so upright. I don't have one, but on Black Friday saw a small machine from Hamilton Beach for $9. It makes one cup of coffee at a time. Uses Senseo packets. Got a free box of Senseo (can't remember if it was in package.) Haven't even used that yet. I put my own favorite coffee grounds in a regular filter, fold it up and fit it in the basket. Make a cup once or twice a day. Also got another coupon for a free Senseo box when I registered online. However, having trouble finding the product. No matter. Cheap way to get fresh coffee without making a whole pot. So I'll likely never buy a Keurig.

First let me say I LOVE my Keurig. However, I have come to find out that they are piece of crap. I am currently on my 5th Keurig machine in 3-4 years.

I think that Keurig's customer service is good, but that they are so quick to replace because their machines have problems and they know it. Each time mine has quit working (and I've had the descale problem, short cupping ie not brewing a full cup, the machine just shutting off, & a "prime" error), Keurig has been quick to mail me a new one. As I am the only one making the coffee, the machine is not overused and it has been different problems.

My mother & aunt has also owned multiple Keurig's & have had to return for various problems. I don't think you hear a lot about the machines & complaints because Keurig is so quick to replace them. If mine actually does quit and they won't replace it, I don't know what I will do because I love it, but know it is not a quality product.

Not being a coffee connoisseur enables me to truck along with Chock Full o' Nuts coffee and my $29.95 five year old Mr. Coffee. No problems and definitely cheaper.
